Forced displacement above 68m in 2017, new global deal on refugees critical

Wars, other violence and persecution drove worldwide forced displacement to a new high in 2017 for the fifth year in a row, led by the crisis in Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan’s war, and the flight into Bangladesh from Myanmar of hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees. Overwhelmingly it is developing countries that are most affected.
In its annual Global Trends report, released today, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency said 68.5 million people were displaced as of the end of 2017. Among them were 16.2 million people who became displaced during 2017 itself, either for the first time or repeatedly – indicating a huge number of people on the move and equivalent to 44,500 people being displaced each day, or a person becoming displaced every two seconds.
Refugees who have fled their countries to escape conflict and persecution accounted for 25.4 million of the 68.5 million. This is 2.9 million more than in 2016, also the biggest increase UNHCR has seen in a single year. Asylum-seekers, who were still awaiting the outcome of their claims to refugee status as of 31 December 2017, meanwhile rose by around 300,000 to 3.1 million. People displaced inside their own country accounted for 40 million of the total, slightly fewer than the 40.3 million in 2016.
In short, the world had almost as many forcibly displaced people in 2017 as the population of Thailand. Across all countries, one in every 110 persons is someone displaced.
“We are at a watershed, where success in managing forced displacement globally requires a new and far more comprehensive approach so that countries and communities aren’t left dealing with this alone,” said UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi. “But there is reason for some hope. Fourteen countries are already pioneering a new blueprint for responding to refugee situations and in a matter of months a new Global Compact on Refugees will be ready for adoption by the United Nations General Assembly. Today, on the eve of World Refugee Day, my message to member states is please support this. No one becomes a refugee by choice; but the rest of us can have a choice about how we help.”
UNHCR’s Global Trends report is released worldwide each year ahead of World Refugee Day (20th June) and tracks forced displacement based on data gathered by UNHCR, governments, and other partners. It does not examine the global asylum environment, which UNHCR reports on separately and which continued in 2017 to see incidents of forced returns, politicization and scapegoating of refugees, refugees being jailed or denied possibility to work, and several countries objecting even to use of the word “refugee”.
Nonetheless, the Global Trends report offers several insights, including in some instances into perceived versus actual realities of forced displacement and how these can sometimes be at odds.
Among these is the notion that the world’s displaced are mainly in countries of the Global North. The data shows the opposite to be true – with fully 85 per cent of refugees in developing countries, many of which are desperately poor and receive little support to care for these populations. Four out of five refugees remain in countries next door to their own.
Large-scale displacement across borders is also less common than the 68 million global displacement figure suggests. Almost two thirds of those forced to flee are internally displaced people who have not left their own countries. Of the 25.4 million refugees, just over a fifth are Palestinians under the care of UNRWA. Of the remainder, for whom UNHCR is responsible, two thirds come from just five countries: Syria, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Myanmar and Somalia. An end to conflict in any one of these has potential to significantly influence the wider global displacement picture.
Two other insights from Global Trends are that most refugees live in urban areas (58 per cent) not in camps or rural areas; and that the global displaced population is young – 53 per cent are children, including many who are unaccompanied or separated from their families.
As with the number of countries producing large-scale displacement, the number of countries hosting large numbers was also comparatively few: Turkey remained the world’s leading refugee hosting country in terms of absolute numbers with a population of 3.5 million refugees, mainly Syrians. Lebanon meanwhile hosted the largest number of refugees relative to its national population. In all, 63 per cent of all refugees under UNHCR’s responsibility were in just 10 countries.
Sadly, solutions for all this remained in short supply. Wars and conflict continued to be the major drivers with little visible progress towards peace. Around five million people were able to return to their homes in 2017 with the vast majority returning from internal displacement, but among these were people returning under duress or to fragile contexts. Due to a drop in the number of resettlement places on offer, the number of resettled refugees was down by over 40 per cent at around 100,000 people.

1. Reporting Forced Displacement – Key Definitions
UNHCR does not use the term ‘migrant’ to describe people who are forced to flee.
Refugee: A person who has fled their country and needs ‘international protection’ because of a risk of violence or persecution were they to return home. This includes people fleeing wars. The term has its roots in international legal instruments, notably the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol and the 1969 OAU Convention. You can acquire refugee status by applying for it individually, or in cases of large influx by being given it on a “prima facie” basis. Refugees cannot be returned to their home country unless it is on a strictly voluntary basis.
Asylum Seeker: A person who has applied on an individual basis for refugee status and is awaiting the result. Asylum seekers are given ‘international protection’ while their claims are being assessed, and like refugees may not be returned home unless it is on a voluntary basis.
Internally displaced person: Internally displaced people, often known by the abbreviation IDPs, are those who are forced to flee their homes to elsewhere in their own country.
Stateless person: Someone who is without a nationality of any country, and consequently lacks the human rights and access to services of those who have citizenship. It is possible to be stateless and a refugee simultaneously.

Obsoleteness and low technology have caused inefficiency and risk to the construction supply chain comprising of developers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers and manufacturers as they have insufficient information to support their fast decision making. Essentially, BUILK’s aim is to solve the industry pain point by bringing its technology to help the construction supply chain.

To boost the competitiveness to another level, BUILK has joined forces with AddVentures by SCG and becoming a strategic partner under the concept of “UNITED WE BUILK” in order to enhance Thailand’s construction industry to catch the global digitization trend and fully utilizing a technological platform. In the future, it aims to develop a B2B purchasing-buying process, to enhance the country’s construction industry and to expand the platform to all 10 ASEAN countries.

BUILK One Group, a Thai startup, has been operating since 2009. It is the first startup in Asia that provides the construction business management software for free with the determination of helping the Thai construction industry turn into the digital world. Currently, BUILK.COM has served over 25,000 small and medium-sized contractors in five countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.

The distinctive point of BUILK.COM is BUILK’s Cost Control feature which helps contractors control the project’s workflow including budgeting, cost accounting, expenses and revenue via the online system. It also keeps SMEs contractors recognize the turnover with real-time update and manage the workflow efficiently. Currently, it has various business models including 1. Pojjaman2 – a cloud-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) system for large-sized contractors 2. BUILK.COM – an online cost control system, which is free of charge for SMEs contractors 3. YELLO Smart Purchase – an online system of purchasing construction materials for contractors 4. JUBILI by BUILK – a sale management and customer relation system 5. PLOY by BUILK – a sale-construction-transfer management system for property developers and 6. KwanJai by BUILK – a maintenance and after sales service management for property developers. All of BUILK’s services focuses on using the software to improve the workflow efficiency and the service for B2B customers, in line with the direction of AddVentures by SCG.
Dr. Joshua Pas, Managing Director of AddVentures by SCG, said that the contractor and construction material business has continuously grown in Thailand and ASEAN. In 2017, the total market value of construction materials among Thai contractors was estimated to be worth more than 68 billion baht. Over 75 per cent of the value was generated by small-to-medium-sized contractors who still runs their business with an inefficient procurement and cost management system. BUILK’s technology can help solve these pain points and enhance the efficiency of procurement and cost management system for an estimated 80,000 contractors only counting Thailand.

“We are confident in the potential of BUILK which has been in this business for years and offers a variety of technological platforms including cost management software, after sales service management and e-commerce for construction materials. This cooperation between BUILK, AddVentures and SCG will boost the competitiveness of the region’s construction industry and help contractors reduce costs and manage their businesses in real time,” said Dr Joshua.
Following this investment, SCG will support BUILK to scale up and strengthen its marketing, distribution, logistics and supply chain by cooperating with dealer networks and penetrating international markets, where SCG has a strong customer base.

Before deciding to provide funding and tightening the partnership, AddVentures made a commercial deal with BUILK since Q1/2018 to explore the best option which will generate the most benefit for the supply chain of construction businesses.
AddVentures by SCG was formally launched in mid 2017 to invest in startups domestically and globally. Such investment will help SCG to adopt new innovations in order to boost its competitiveness and provide better products and faster services to lift consumers’ quality of life. It gives priority to three verticals which are

1. Industrial 2. B2B and 3. Enterprise.

Priceza points out the cross-border e-commerce has rapidly been growing and the competition in marketplace business is getting tougher, following the entry of e-commerce giants from overseas. Priceza partners with banks to facilitate consumers and further develop Priceza Money, while it also plans to penetrate into Indonesia with its full speed, aiming to gain more shares in the $44 billion market.
Thanawat Malabuppha, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Priceza Co Ltd, an operator of the country’s leading shopping search engine website and application “Priceza”, revealed the in-depth statistic data of Priceza in the first half of 2018 that there were over 70 million visits through website and application. The number of the products on Priceza platform has significantly increased by 28% from 28 million items in 2017 to the current 36 million items due mainly to the growth of cross-border e-commerce, allowing users to order from overseas more easily. At present, 17 million items of cross-border products are on Priceza platform and account for 47% of total products.

“In the second half, the competition of the marketplace tends to be more intense because marketplace giants from overseas have aggressively penetrated into the market. Meanwhile, those who suspended their operation in Thailand have also returned. It remains unclear whether we will see any addition of cross-border e-commerce in the market. Therefore, e-commerce entrepreneurs need to adjust themselves and think of more strategies and selling points in order to survive and stay competitive among the fierce competition in the second half of this year as well as the competition with the cross border products,” said Thanawat.

Priceza’s in-depth data in the first half also found that consumers spent 1,702 baht on average on online shopping via desktop, mobile web and application.

Thanawat added that Priceza has tightened up the partnership with leading banks to provide the convenience to marketplaces, stores and consumers in the high competition era. Apart from helping users make the decision to get the best price, Priceza also supports the information of online payment gateways to users so that they can get the best option for themselves.

“Previously, we launched Priceza Money via https://money.priceza.com which gives the price comparison service of three financial and insurance products including 1. Car insurance, featuring more than 1.6 million car insurance plans 2. Credit card, featuring more than 69 credit cards from leading financial institutions and 3. Personal loans from leading financial institutions. We launched this service because we saw several pain points, for example, it takes too much time to do the traditional car insurance and 90% of drivers don’t feel secure when the insurance expires. Hence, we try to develop our platforms and connect with fintech world to solve the consumers’ pain points,” he said.

Besides Thailand, Priceza plans to focus more on Indonesia’s market in the last six months of this year as the value of e-commerce market in Indonesia is forecast to rise to $44 billion (approximately 1.45 trillion baht) by 2025, representing 50% of total value of the e-commerce market in Southeast Asia.
Priceza was established in 2010 by Thanawat and three of his university friends from Engineering Faculty, Chulalongkorn University. For they visioned the future of e-commerce business, they decided to develop the search engine and price and information comparison tools for those who want to shop online. Currently, it operates through www.priceza.com and application in six countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Singapore and Philippines. It claims it has over 8 million users per month and over 12 million visits per month.

Bangkok – July 11, 2018: MFEC Public Company Limited is the first Thai company to provide Machine Learning solution for predictive analytics and improved security notifications that helps protect enterprise applications. Called “mDefense - The Future of Intelligent Protection”, this cutting-edge solution based on Cisco Tetration Platform.
Thanakorn Charlee, Chief Operating Officer,MFEC Public Company Limited said, MFEC has developed mDefense - The Future of Intelligent Protection, based on Machine Learning technology, to provide predictive analysis and security notifications that can help protect enterprise applications. MFEC is the first company in Thailand to deliver this kind of solution.
mDefense solution extends the capabilities of Cisco Tetration Platform, which is a large data tank that stores usage and network logs. It can be compared with surveillance camera system that enables detection and analysis of unusual events on the network. MFEC leverages insights from Cisco Tetration Platform to deliver predictions so as to help avoid negative effects on businesses.

mDefense is an intelligent solution. It can recognize and learn about both normal behaviors like regular usage patterns and unusual events such as cyber-attacks and ransonware.                  It analyzes behaviors that can negatively affect the systems or expose them to security threats or damage risks.

“To protect businesses from security threats better, MFEC has leveraged Machine Learning technology to enable our solution to learn about the differences between normal behaviors and anomalies. We use data from Tetration Telemetry and Application Performance Monitoring (APM) to identify the status of applications and servers. Then, data from both sources will be send to Machine Learning model that allow network behavior learning. The solution will thus provide predictions about application downtime or server downtime, along with reports on the number of affected users, estimated losses and proactive solutions.            All this information will help prevent business losses and damages,” Thanakorn said.

Moreover, mDefense will send analysis to administrators, allowing them to clearly read details on the dashboard and quickly set up protection plan and solutions to mitigate damages. mDefense can also learn about behaviors of emerging threats. With future updates, mDefense will be able to suggest proper solutions to administrators that this will be very beneficial to both IT administrators and business managers.
“mDefense is designed for large enterprises in public and private sectors that rely on business-critical software applications. If these applications work improperly due to security attacks or errors, it will cause significant losses to their business. Bangkok, 16 July 2018, Tourism Authority of Thailand (the ‘TAT’), together with True, Mittare Insurance Public Company, Nok Air ,README.ME and TraveliGo.com have announced the launch of “ Aor Sor Social ” – an online community group of volunteers to help promote village tourism and inspire millennial travelers to experience “One Night Stay with Locals” programs.
TAT Governor Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, said  “thai millennial travelers represent one of the most important markets at the moment, and we would like to invite them to travel to the country’s local communities. Thai millennial traveler’s insight have indicated that their top 4 criteria that inspire them to “go local” arefirstly that there is a range of fun activities, secondly, there is beautiful scenery, third, the local food, and finally the unique accommodationoptions on offer at each destination. They also tend to think that existing information about local tourism on social media platforms is, in most cases, not particularly inspirational. With this information in mind, the TAT has carried out two key things; firstly, they have gone through a selection process to find the right villages based on those millennial insights, and there are now 14 communities that are ready to welcome them. These are:
  1. Pha Mee Community, Chiang Rai Province
  2. Ban Tha Khan Thong Community, Chiang Rai Province
  3. Pang Ha Home Stay, Chiang Rai Province
  4. Sila Petch Community, Nan Province
  5. Ban Pa Miang Community, Lampang Province
  6. Laem Phak Bia Community, Petchaburi Province
  7. Ban Laem Klad Community, Trat Province
  8. Khiri Wong kot Community, Udon Thani Province
  9. Phrom Lok Community, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province
  10. Ban Sam Chong Neuh, Phang Nga Province
  11. Pa Tew (Bang Son) Tourist Community, Chumphon Province
  12. Boh Hin Farm Stay Community, Trang Province
  13. Ta Mod Community, Phatthalung Province
  14. Baan Chulaporn Patthana9 Community, Yala Province
The second important thing that the TAT has done is to recruit an online community group of citizens who love to travel and have a volunteer spirit to join the mission of “ Aor Sor Social ” (Aor Sor in Thai means volunteer people). The mission of Aor Sor Social is to help promote each village by creating digital travel content, such as videos clips, photos, and reviews, and then sharing all of this on social media platforms. The overall aim is to inspire millennial travelers to experience the unique village tour programs called “One Night Stay with Locals”.
For more details, please check out www.OneNightStaywithLocals.com.
TAT Governor Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, concluded that “the TAT is very confident that Aor Sor Social will accomplish the mission to boost the number of millennial travelers ‘going local’ and experiencing the one night stay with locals programs in the chosen villages. This will also help to generate more revenue for the local communities while villagers will also have the opportunity to learn new social media skills in order to promote their village across the social world, all of which would be a sign of real sustainable success.”

He explained that the five megatrends that will the country, as well as the rest of the world, would face are: 1) the Future of Smart, 2) Behavioral revolution, 3) Empowered Citizen, 4) Urban World and 5) Resourceful Planet.
The Future of Smart refers to the time when automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology replace several human works, such as marketing strategy plan and implementation, which is mostly seen in logistics, medical, services, banking, e-commerce activities, such as the patient monitoring system using intelligent sensor to check the biological changes, analyze the result and diagnose symptoms before making an accurate prediction of the persons symptoms.

The second trend is the Behavioral Revolution which means individuals behavioral change and brands will have to monitor such changes on online channel. This will enable them to customize their offerings to best address their changing needs. In addition, such consumer behavior changes will lead to social change as seen in young generations behaviors.

The third trend, Empowered Citizen, underlines the peoples power to change. The cooperation among the government, private sector and the people should be encouraged in order to promote social innovation creation and the development of smart citizen”. In Europe, for example, the people are encouraged to participate in proposing new laws and regulations through online channel, and transparent and sufficient information disclosure is promoted.

Urban World, the fourth trend, means that small towns will be developed with a vision. In the future, cities will be equipped with smart infrastructure and innovative digital technology that enhances convenience and security level in the society, leading to better quality of life of the people. This is seen in the development of Smart City in many countries.

The last trend is Resourceful Planet. Innovations will be in high demand, especially in the area of alternative energy, IoT and machine Learning. In the future, solar cells will become widely adopted, for example, giving consumers more choices of source of energy and income generated from sales of excess power supply.
The trends are unavoidable, said Nart. “The government, state enterprises and even the private sectors have to face such changes and increase their capabilities to cope with them and to better address the peoples changing needs. Proposing a co-creation approach to realize success for business and society Fujitsu Limited
Thailand, Bangkok , 24 July 2018Fujitsu today released the latest evolution of the Fujitsu Technology and Service Vision. Fujitsu's global theme this year is 'Co-creation for Success'. Fujitsu has been engaged in many co-creation projects with customers and partners, which have delivered successful outcomes ranging from improvement of efficiency in manufacturing to the transformation of the customer experience in retail and financial services. Today, digital co-creation is shifting into a new phase, from proof of concept to new business creation. In the vision this year, Fujitsu introduces key success factors for digital transformation, while proposing a new approach to transforming data into value, trends in breakthrough technologies, and new business and societal models in the era of IoT, AI, and Blockchain.

Rapid advances in digital technology are transforming our daily lives, our businesses, and entire industries. Business leaders have told us digital transformation is not easy, however, and creates many challenges. Nevertheless, organizations can overcome these challenges by setting out their future visions, building ecosystems, and exploiting data to create value.
Fujitsu first published the Fujitsu Technology and Service Vision in April 2013 and has updated it annually since then. The key concept of this vision is how digital technology can empower people to create significant value for business and society. Fujitsu calls this approach Human Centric Innovation, the key to driving digital transformation.
http://www.fujitsu.com/global/Images/20180418-01al_tcm100-3748010.jpg
The following three new key messages are introduced in Fujitsu Technology and Service Vision 2018.
1. Six success factors for digital transformation - Digital Muscles
The digital landscape is uneven, and transformation is taking place at different speeds across different industries. Nevertheless, organizations that delivered greater outcomes showed higher capabilities across six factors: Leadership, People, Agility, Business Integration, Ecosystem and Value from Data. We call these six success factors 'digital muscles'. The stronger their digital muscles, the better the likelihood of delivering success. This indicates that digital transformation is not just about introducing digital technology, but it is a journey affecting every part of the enterprise.
2. Fujitsu's approach to creating value from data, and its breakthrough technology
Deep learning and other AI technologies are evolving remarkably, but exploiting data is not just a technology challenge. To generate substantial business and societal outcomes, it is crucial to apply the most appropriate AI technologies across different types of data. To do this requires the integration of business experience and technological knowhow. To deliver success through co-creation with customers, Fujitsu provides a digital business platform, solutions and services, which connect AI, IoT, Cloud and Security technologies. In addition, Fujitsu is pushing the boundaries of technology to solve business and social challenges. For example, Fujitsu has realized the implementation of 'Explainable AI'. Fujitsu's Human Centric AI Zinrai is able to explain the logic behind its insights, while other existing AI technologies are not able to do so. Another breakthrough technology is Fujitsu's new computing architecture, called Digital Annealer, which is able to solve complex combinatorial optimization problems that conventional computers cannot handle.

3. An autonomous and distributed society, where people and AI will collaborate
In this era of IoT, AI, and Blockchain, Fujitsu believes a new type of organization called a Learning Enterprise will emerge. In this Learning Enterprise, people will collaborate with AI to learn from experience and data, and continuously create innovation.
Data is causing the transformation of entire industries, a significant shift from vertically integrated value chains to distributed ecosystems. In a hyperconnected world, Blockchain and new advanced security technologies will underwrite uncertainty in transactions and assure the trustworthiness of data. The latest pair of pure Android devices from Xiaomi offer excellent performance and powerful photography capabilities at an honest price
MADRID, Spain, 24 July 2018—Global technology leader Xiaomi expanded its Android One lineup today with the introduction of Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite, which feature powerful photography capabilities and a host of notable upgrades from the previous generation. Starting from $199 in Spain, the two devices encapsulate Xiaomi’s commitment to offering amazing products with honest prices to let everyone in the world enjoy a better life through innovative technology.

Xiaomi’s wildly successful Mi A1 launched in September last year was the first device to run on the evolved Android One program. The two new devices announced today are set to take the Android One experience to a whole new level, especially with the exceptional photography experience they offer.

Mi A2 is a photography powerhouse by sporting a 12MP + 20MP rear AI dual camera and a 20MP front camera. It is powered by the Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 660 SoC with the powerful Qualcomm® Artificial Intelligence Engine (AIE). The slightly smaller Mi A2 Lite is a great value package with a 12MP + 5MP rear AI dual camera and a 4,000mAh large battery.
Xiaomi Senior Vice President Wang Xiang said: “Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite are two devices that will take our win-win partnership with Google to new heights, following the success of Mi A1 last year. With an amazing user experience that well exceeds people’s expectations, offered at an honest price, our Android One series has now developed an excellent reputation and allowed us to win over the hearts of many more users in our global expansion journey.”

“We have been truly excited at seeing the success story of Mi A1 unfold over the past year, delivering a breath of fresh air to the Android One program,” said Jamie Rosenberg, Google’s VP of Business & Operations, Android & Google Play. “Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite offer powerful hardware with a simple and pure Android experience, the best of Google built in, and a commitment to future software and security updates. We’re thrilled to continue this amazing partnership with Xiaomi.”

Mi A2 — Beautifully designed, with powerful 20MP dual cameras

Mi A2 features a stunning 5.99-inch 18:9 full screen display, protected by a 2.5D Corning® Gorilla® Glass 5 panel, in a beautifully-designed aluminum unibody with an arced back panel that is tapered towards the four sides. Measuring just 7.3mm thick, Mi A2 offers great aesthetics and ergonomics at the same time.
With a 20MP Sony IMX376 front camera and a 12MP + 20MP AI dual camera—one of the most powerful setups in this price range, Mi A2 takes gorgeous photos that are sure to impress.
Mi A2 is a dream come true for those who love selfies. The 20MP front sensor features Super Pixel technology that combines the information of four pixels to create one large 2.0µm pixel, which greatly improves the sensor’s light sensitivity, resulting in clearer and brighter images in low-light conditions. Coupled with effects such as AI Portrait, AI Beautify 4.0 and HDR, as well as a 4500K front Selfie-light, taking a good-looking selfie becomes truly effortless.

The rear 20MP camera features the same Super Pixel-enabled sensor with a ƒ/1.75 large aperture, which results in clearer, vibrant photos even in low-light conditions. It is coupled with a 12MP camera that has 1.25µm large pixels and a ƒ/1.75 aperture as well, which allows Mi A2 to take photos with beautiful bokeh effects. Another useful feature on Mi A2 is that users can manually select the 20MP or 12MP rear camera according to environment lighting, for example switching to the 20MP sensor when shooting in low-light situations to take advantage of the large 2.0µm pixels for brighter photos.

Powered by Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 660 platform with Artificial Intelligence Engine, Mi A2 offers a crisp, smooth experience. Advanced Kryo architecture with Arm’s big.LITTLE construction, coupled with up to 6GB LPDDR4x RAM, means Mi A2 offers a perfect blend of performance and power-efficiency.

Mi A2 Lite — dual camera, two-day battery
Mi A2 Lite is the first Android One device to feature a unique 19:9 display. This 5.84” FHD+ full screen display is housed in a relatively compact body, making it very convenient for one-handed use. The screen also comes with useful features such as Auto Contrast, Reading Mode and Night Mode.
Mi A2 Lite sports a 12MP + 5MP AI rear dual camera, with the 12MP primary sensor featuring large 1.25µm pixels and phase-detection autofocus for fast and accurate autofocus. It also has a 5MP front camera that supports AI Portrait Mode, which means photos can come with a bokeh effect even without a second lens.
With an impressive 4000mAh battery, Mi A2 Lite easily powers through 7.5 hours of continuous gaming and 16.5 hours of non-stop video streaming. This is also thanks to the power-efficient Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 platform, which allows Mi A2 Lite to cope with demanding 3D games while maintaining excellent battery life.

Android One — latest innovations from Google

As part of the Android One program, Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite run pure Android 8.1 out of the box with the latest Google software innovations such as smarter batteries that last longer by adjusting
to user habits. Supported by Google Assistant and Google Lens, the system makes it easy for users to find answers and get things done on-the-go. In terms of security, users can rest easy with monthly security software updates and Google Play Protect built in. More importantly, Mi A2 and Mi A2 Lite support Google’s Project Treble, resulting in faster and easier system updates than other Android devices so users can get their hands on the latest features.

USD40 million, 140-rai Blue Tree Phuket signals maturing of the Phuket tourism industry
as domestic and international demand drives growth of inland attractions
Bangkok, Thailand, 20 August 2018– Phuket’s tourism industry has received a major shot in the arm with the unveiling of Blue Tree Phuket, a USD40 million investment and multi-dimensional destination waterpark and entertainment complex set over 140 rai in Cherng Talay.

Positioned as Phuket’s premier family attraction, Blue Tree is located within easy reach of Phuket’s popular central west coast and will be the island’s first international-standard, fully integrated waterpark and family entertainment complex, placing it at the cutting-edge of a growing demand for inland tourism on the island.

Crystal Lagoons Epperson Opening, Florida, Spring 2018

The complex will feature a compelling mix of retail, destination dining, waterpark, beach club, and health and fitness with its star attraction at its centre – Blue Tree Lagoon – designed and built by world-leading US-based water attraction specialists Crystal Lagoons.
Opening in the first quarter 2019, Blue Tree is led by Michael Ayling, former Managing Director of Laguna Phuket, a destination which set a benchmark in Phuket for large-scale, high-quality integrated tourism product, who now embarks on a new pioneering project for the island.

“We are delighted to be announcing what we feel will be a key component in Phuket’s tourism future as we are confident Blue Tree will appeal to families looking for high quality entertainment,” said Mr Ayling.
“Phuket’s tourism market has changed considerably over the past ten years. We now see strong demand for inland attractions driven by Thai families, residents of the island and the growth of the independent-travelling international tourism market. All three markets have one thing in common: a need for high-quality, family-focused entertainment away from the beach. This is what we will deliver,” he said.
Blue Tree Phuket will offer a Water and Entertainment park, a four-storey vertical Beach Club, Fitness Zone, Kid’s Club and multiple retail spaces. In addition, 17 restaurants and food outlets will cater to all tastes and budgets, centred around the complex’s star attraction: Blue Tree Lagoon.
The 17,000-square-metre man-made lagoon has been designed by Crystal Lagoons, who most recently completed a mega inland lagoon project in the family attraction capital of the world, Florida. It is flanked by artificial beaches and offers an aquatic playground for family-friendly and adrenaline-driven activities such as a Slip N Fly, water slides, splash zone and even cliff jumping.
Aside from utilising state-of-the-art technology to maintain water clarity, Blue Tree Lagoon also boasts eco-friendly credentials. Powered by Crystal Lagoons' sustainable technology, the lagoon uses up to 100 times fewer chemicals and 50 times less energy than conventional swimming pool systems.
Blue Tree has been in development for the past two years, from the master planning stages to partnership selections and management – with environmental sustainability a core component of the project’s DNA and fundamental to its promotion of an active and healthy lifestyle.
“Blue Tree has natural borders. These are thick, mature rubber plantations that surround the project and emphasise the lush tropical environment found throughout the grounds. The name itself is testament to our commitment – a green and blue oasis in the shape of a tree, with deep roots and strong connections to the destination, its heritage and its future,” said Mr Ayling.
“Phuket will always be known for its spectacular sea and sand, but there’s been a clear demand for inland entertainment alternatives for some time now and this will fit the bill, showcasing a lesser known side of Phuket but one that will appeal to both middle class Thai families and Amanpuri guests in one strategically located destination.”

Admission fees will be kept affordable with a pay-and-use concept, while full access to all activities will be priced lower than THB1,000.
