Having exceeded its target growth of 11% in the first quarter of 2018, PFP is forging ahead in the domestic market with the concept “Insight, Access, Quality” and  digital marketing. The company has also launched its online store PFT TASTY SHOP and is slated to showcase its new range of products at THAIFEX 2018.
Regarding the overall processed seafood industry, Mr. Thawee Piyapatana, President of PFP Group, stated, “In the previous year, the industry saw an increase in production rates, domestic and overseas sales, as well as exports, thanks to the steady rise in the demand of its major importing countries, coupled with an economic recovery. As a result, there was greater demand for all categories of Thai food.
“In response to this trend, PFP has planned to expand its exports and domestic client base by incorporating more technology to its operations, with a major investment of 200 million baht earmarked for its factories dedicated adding new machines and improvines existing ones in order to expand its production. In addition, PFP has launched an online store to cater to the shifting lifestyles of consumers and provide them with greater access to the company’s products.
“In 2018, PFP has set its target revenue at 5 billion baht, a 11% increase from the previous year, with overseas and domestic markets accounting for 10% and 14% respectively. As the leader of frozen processed seafood products both in fresh market outlets and the food service industry, PFP has successfully earned consumers’ trust despite fierce price competition and is widely recognized for the superior quality and taste of its products, thanks to the standard and efficiency of its production and operations.
“As for its overseas markets, PFP has already exceeded its goals for the first quarter, particularly in Asia, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV). As their production of food products has not been able to meet the domestic demand, there has been a rise in imports from these countries. In addition, the economy and trade of many importing countries, such as the Middle Eastern countries, the United States, and the European Union, are also looking up as well,” said Thawee.
In terms of its operations and marketing plans, Mr.Thawatchai Ratanapisit, Executive Director of PFP Group, stated, “In 2018, PFP will forge ahead into overseas markets by expanding its customer base and adding new sales channels, both for frozen and ready-to-eat products, especially in China and Europe. For the domestic market, PFP is introducing a new concept: “Insight, Access, Quality,” in tandem with digital marketing strategies, with planned online marketing campaigns aimed at creating awareness among the target consumer groups.
“Insight: Innovative elements are introduced to the company’s products to meet the shifting needs and behavior of consumers and cater to the modern lifestyles, where consumers seek the convenience of ready-to-eat meals as well as greater access to these products, such as PFP’s snow crab, which is available at 7-11. In addition, the products will not only need to be superior in taste and convenience but also healthy as well as easily accessible through channels designed to suit for each target group.
“Access: PFP’s products have been made accessible through a diverse range of sales channels, including online and modern trade channels. The company has also opened up new PFP Shops, in addition to the eight existing branches, to expand its coverage in Bangkok and the areas in its vicinity. Furthermore, it has placed greater emphasis on delivering updates and receiving feedback from consumers through its social media channels.
“Quality: PFP sets out to deliver excellence through its quality ingredients, advanced production and technology, personnel, as well as its research and development (R&D), all of which have placed PFP at the forefront of the processed seafood industry as the leader of healty products that meet the taste and lifestyle needs of consumers of all sexes and ages.”
Ms. Piyakarn Piyapatana, Executive Director of PFP Group, said, “There is a clear sign that consumers are moving towards the 4.0 era and increasingly adopting a smart lifestyle, especially urbanites who use technology to conveniently purchase products and services online. To accommodate this trend, PFP launched PFP TASTY SHOP, an online outlet for PFP products, in April.
“PFP TASTY SHOP offers PFP’s ready-to-eat products for export, such as Thai green curry, fish tofu in Chinese five spice sauce, tom yum seafood, stir-fried fish with holy basil, and spicy minced fish with chill paste, mainly through Facebook, Instagram, and Line@. These products are also available on other online marketplaces such as Lazada, providing greater access to consumers, especially younger people in the working age and teenagers who value convenience and are health-conscious.
“At THAIFEX 2018, to be held from May 29 to June 2, 2018, PFP will unveil a new range of products, both frozen, such as hor mok pla (steamed Thai curry fish custard), fish balls in curry sauce, and croquettes, and ready-to-eat products, with a highlight such as braised mackerel in sweet sauce, an authentic Thai dish featuring plump mackerel with edible bones that will delight people of all ages. Also debuted at the fair is PFP’s first-ever dessert: five-colored cereals in coconut flower syrup, a low-sodium, cholesterol-free dessert rich in vitamins and minerals. “You can visit PFP’s booth at THAIFEX 2018 at Booth R01-Q14 in Challenger 2 Building, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani. B.Grimm Power Plc ((BGRIM) confirmed that its two major power projects, with a combined generating capacity of  240 megawatts, will proceed as planned despite a change of location.

BGRIM President Preeyanart said shifting of the project site, from Ratchaburi to Samut Prakan, will not impact the scheduled commercial operation date (SCOD), set in 2021.
The Company is seeking permission from the Energy Regulatory Commission to change the location of the BGPR1 and BGPR2 co-generation facilities.
At the same time, BGRIM has coordinated with the relevant authorities including the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), the buyer of power supply, to make available grid connection and substation at the new location of the power plants.
Once approval from ERC is granted, BGRIM will commence construction of the projects which are to be completed within 24-26 months before the power sale agreement with EGAT takes effect on June 1, 2021.
“We are striving to meet the SCOD timeline, and no change is foreseen, at least for the time being," Mrs Preeyanart noted.BGPR1 and BGPR2 were originally set to be located in the V.R.M. Industrial Estate located in Ratchburi.
But the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand (IEAT) later cancelled the estate development in Ratchaburi.
That has prompted BGRIM to move the projects to the Asia Industrial Estate, situated in Samut Prakan which is attracting industrial ventures from local and international companies.
The BGRIM facilities will serve to strengthen security of power supply, not only to the Samut Prakan neighbourhood and Bangkok, but in the area of Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) development which requires significant electricity supply, Mrs Preeyanart concluded.

“StoreHub expands business in POS, aiming to equip Thai SMEs and startups to achieve New Retail 4.0”

Today, everything must be fast and real-time, and both in-store and back-end operations must be optimized. StoreHub (Thailand) Limited, a technology company that offers POS system on iPad, is committed to helping SMEs expand their businesses in Thailand fully by the end of this year. StoreHub raised USD 5.1M and received support Vertex Ventures for the Series A round. The company said that modern businesses must adapt themselves to keep up with the changes, but SMEs in Thailand look promising.
Wai Hong Fong, founder and managing director of StoreHub, said that StoreHub offers cloud-based solutions, with iPad POS system, smart inventory management system, CRM, business analysis system, and customer management system. Founded in 2014 in Malaysia, with four offices in the region, the company has customers in 15 countries in big cities like Kuala Lumpur, Manila, Shanghai, and Bangkok. Using the iPad, StoreHub has made it cheaper and easier for retailers to use and for business owners to manage their businesses to increase business opportunities without investing too much on resources. With friendly user interface that is both easy and cost-effective, StoreHub has expanded rapidly and trusted by 3,700 stores in 15 countries over the past four years. StoreHub has helped these businesses transact over US$270 million in sales in just 12 months.
For 2018, the company is prepared to invest in expanding its market in Thailand. Thailand is a unique and vibrant market for SMEs. On top of traditional SME retailers, there’s a rise of social retailers which put pressure on the overall retail competition.  Thailand has 1.1 million SME retailers. Traditional retailers will have to work hard to adapt and be more agile with the top line and bottom line. StoreHub offers solutions to modern SMEs and startups, such as retailers, clothing stores, grocery stores, coffee shops, spas and salons. It aims for 1,000 businesses in Thailand to become StoreHub customers within 2018. The company is also expanding its team and expects the team to be three times bigger than it is now. StoreHub is in discussion with not only retails, but finance and FMCG sectors as it builds its positioning in Thailand. It also has an exciting e-commerce product that will help retailers launch online stores in a hassle-free manner, even if they are not tech savvy in the pipeline to be roll out later this year.
Wai Hong Fong said that StoreHub believes in helping businesses succeed and increasing the competitiveness of SMEs with brick-and-mortar stores, especially with the rise of ecommerce and cheap products from China. StoreHub focuses on building a systematic platform.  Businesses that are StoreHub customers can be divided into three groups: retailers at 75%, F&B businesses at 20%, and services at 5%. Its POS system consists of 2 components:
1. The app, which is what a store's cashier would use to receive orders, print receipts or collect cash. This is designed to be simple and intuitive to use, which is important for store owners because retail businesses often have a higher employee turnover and revolving part timers. So, having a system that's easy to use is really important and crucial.
2. Cloud-based back office which is a reporting & management inventory tool that can be accessed from pretty much anywhere with an internet connection. Business owners can gain insights into their business provides them with data such as their best selling items. This allows them to manage their stores from wherever they are.
StoreHub also has exciting e-commerce product that will help retailers launch online stores in a hassle-free manner, even if they are not tech savvy. This will help SMEs and businesses move forward. StoreHub also provides great customer service, with a local team focused on our customers’ success and support.
Today, communication and decisions must be fast, instant and real time. SMEs, retailers and startups in Thailand must adapt themselves to keep up with Thailand 4.0. This means they have to increase their efficiency, and old methods might no longer be relevant. Tracking, analyzing, and decision making based on real time data is crucial in order to be ahead of the game, and this is where cloud storage can help. Cloud storage allows real-time data collection and report, facilitates rigorous analysis and helps businesses make better judgement on what to sell, what to deprecate, and what to do differently. It also offers online and offline integration. The rise of mobile internet introduces online competitors to traditional retail businesses. Future of retails depends on how businesses can create and offer goods and services to consumers who live omnipresently between offline and online worlds. Tracking and measuring the right data is the key to unlock this mystery, said Wai Hong Fong.

The market is divided into three segments: Premium at 5%, standard at 70% and economy at 25%. dtac affirms its high-band spectrum leadership, announces it will not participate in the 1800 MHz spectrum auction

$

0
June 15, 2018 - Total Access Communication Public Company Limited, or dtac, has not submitted an application for spectrum licensing for telecommunications service in the frequency band of 1800 MHz to the Office of National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC).
Mr. Lars Norling, CEO of Total Access Communication PLC. or dtac, said: “dtac has considered the auction carefully and concluded that dtaccurrently has enough high-band spectrum to handle the growth of data services. Moreover, the auction conditions did not allow for long-term value creation for our customers and shareholder. As always, dtac will continue to ensure it holds enough spectrum to serve the growing needs of its customers. And we will take all necessary preparatory measures to ensure that no customer is adversely impacted by the concession expiry.”
DTAC HAS AMPLE HIGH-SPECTRUM HOLDINGS
dtac holds 2x15 MHz of capacity on 2100 MHz and recently gained access to a block of 60 MHz on 2300 MHz, Thailand’s widest single block of spectrum. Allowing for the loss 1800 MHz after the remedy period, this constitutes a net gain of 10 MHz in terms of high-band holdings.
As the 2300 MHz spectrum operates on 4G TDD, its benefits are even greater on download capacity, which is increasingly critical given the changing behaviors of Thai consumers who now stream several hours of video per day
Even without 1800 MHz and 850 MHz, dtac has more download capacity per customer than its competitors (dtac: 2.75 MHz per million subscribers, competitors: 1.37 MHz and 1.99 MHz). dtac’s customers will therefore not be affected by the loss of 1800 MHz.
To bolster its network, dtac is also rolling out new cell sites faster than ever in its history. It is adding about 4,000 3G/4G 2100 MHz sites per year in 2017-2018, double the rollout speed in previous years. In addition, dtac committed to adding a minimum 4,000 dtac TURBO (4G TDD) sites in 2018 as per its agreement with TOT. In fact, dtac is aiming for up to 7,000 dtac TURBO sites by year-end.

TELCOS NEED LOW-BAND SPECTRUM
In contrast with Thailand’s high-band spectrum availability, dtac underscored the pressing need to make more low-band spectrum available for telecommunications, ensuring network quality for those outside of dense urban areas. Low-band signals allow the furthest coverage distances and therefore greater access to mobile connectivity, reaching rural populations where the high-density networks needed for high-band spectrum would be unsustainable. Currently, there is no roadmap for low-band spectrum availability despite keen interest from all operators.
Thailand is also an extreme outlier when it comes to spectrum auction prices. Combined with large spectrum blocks and the N-1 rule, Thailand’s spectrum auctions have led to severe spectrum scarcity and adverse effects on consumers. Compared to some of their regional neighbors, Thais pay more for their mobile internet connections while getting slower speeds. Ultimately, these conditions can also lead to inadequate infrastructure development and lasting damage to Thailand’s digital economy.

ENSURING UNINTERRUPTED SERVICES
In the meantime, ensuring uninterrupted mobile services is a shared responsibility of the NBTC, the spectrum owner and the service provider. To secure a smooth transition for all its customers, dtac submitted a joint consumer protection plan with CAT on June 7, 2018, for temporary provision of services in the 850 MHz and 1800 MHz bands.
This joint plan is aimed at ensuring uninterrupted services and follows the practice by other operators in the past. The three previous remedy periods in Thailand lasted 9 to 26 months and they ended on the first day of operation of the new licensee. dtac is therefore adamant that its customers should be granted the same rights as those of other operators, as per NBTC regulations1800 MHz should be granted remedy until the first day of operation of the winning bidder; and as 850 MHz has not be auctioned, it should be granted remedy until there is a new licensee ready to operate it.
Together with dtac’s active efforts to migrate its 2G customers and aggressive network rollout on 2100 MHz and 2300 MHz, these measures offer protection to customers on every single band currently operated by dtac—2G, 3G and 4G—and will ensure continuous service without any risk of SIM “blackout.”

DTAC IS BUILDING THE BEST DATA NETWORK
Mr. Prathet Tankuranun, Chief Technology Officer, dtac, said: “dtac is fully committed to building the best data network in Thailand. We are investing 4.51 billion baht per year to operate 2300 MHz in partnership with TOT and will invest a further 15-18 billion baht in building our 2100 and 2300 MHz network. Thanks to our strategic partnership with TOT, we can explore new business opportunities like fixed wireless broadband. And our partnership with CAT will also allow us to keep operating the towers that are under the concession ending Sep 15, 2018. This will ensure continuous service for our customers and the best experience possible.”

dtac’s network also holds several technological firsts, making it the most advanced in Thailand. It already operates on virtual cores which permit the rapid launch of innovative telecommunications solutions and a much greater flexibility in responding to changing consumer needs. dtac also uses cutting-edge big data analytics to roll out new cell sites with much greater precision and efficacy than in the past. This August, dtac will be the first to commercially operate 5G-ready massive MIMO antennas in Thailand.
“Our customers can rest assured they will have service continuity. We have the most high-band spectrum and are rapidly building the best data network in Thailand, not just for today but also for tomorrow. What all telecommunications operators now want is a clear roadmap for low-band spectrum, to keep up with Thai data consumption both in urban centers and across the whole country,” said Mr. Norling.
