NEW ROLLS-ROYCE GHOST

$

27th July 2020

Dear Reader,

The launch of a new Rolls-Royce is unquestionably an historic moment. However, presenting a new Ghost carries with it tremendous responsibility. Our new Ghost, which will debut in the Autumn, follows the first ever Goodwood Ghost, which, since its launch in 2009 has become the most successful model in the marque’s 116-year history. Indeed, such was its timeless appeal, it enjoyed a lifespan of more than a decade. A truly remarkable achievement.

As we reached the final development stages of this our new product, we were faced with the coronavirus pandemic. This invisible enemy cast a grave and stubborn shadow on the world. At Rolls-Royce, we kept our spirits up. With the utmost focus on the wellbeing of our people at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, and around the world, we carefully and responsibly continued work on finalising this remarkable motor car. The experience reminded us that Rolls-Royce, with the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy at its prow, has endured with resilience and continues to serve as a symbol of ambition and endeavour.

To create a product that would resonate with our Ghost clients for the next ten years meant that we had to listen very carefully to their demands and desires. And we did so. They told us that they very much enjoyed Ghost’s versatility and breadth of character. It is a car they enjoyed driving themselves – or to be driven in should the occasion call for a chauffeur. They also appreciated the car’s pared-back simplicity, or as they put it, “a slightly smaller, less ostentatious means to own a Rolls-Royce”.

Going further, our clients expressed an ardent desire for even more minimalism in design. This demand resonated with findings of our Luxury Intelligence Unit and designers at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, West Sussex who, for some years had been tracking an emerging contemporary movement within a particular layer of luxury consumers, which included our Ghost clients, and which we called ‘Post Opulence’. We found that these clients are showing a marked tendency towards luxury objects that celebrate reduction and restraint – that don’t shout, but rather, whisper. They are seeking design purity by rejecting obvious and unnecessary embellishments and overt complication. To complement this minimalism, our Ghost clients require innovative but effortless technology and real engineering substance in their car.

Of course, there will always be a place in this world, and at Rolls-Royce, for items and products of opulence that express the very best of human endeavour, inspire greatness and present a sense of theatre and magic. But we at Rolls-Royce remain alert for any signs of a recalibration of need within layers of the global luxury marketplace.

And so, five years ago, we set about the creation of our new Ghost. And such was the task that the only components we deemed fit to carry over were the Spirit of Ecstasy and umbrellas. Everything else is entirely new. The car has been designed, engineered, and crafted from the ground up at our Global Centre of Luxury Manufacturing Excellence in Goodwood, West Sussex, to answer the express wishes and desires of a post-opulent group of clients.

Ghost is the purest expression of Rolls-Royce yet. It distils the pillars of our brand into a beautiful, minimalist, yet highly complex product that is perfectly in harmony with our Ghost clients’ needs and, I believe, perfectly in tune with the times in which we are all living.

Rolls-Royce will always continue driving forward. Our company will be neither defined nor limited by the temporary constraints of the times. We will continue planning for a better tomorrow with positivity and hope, striving for perfection and producing powerful symbols that inspire greatness and ambition.

In this spirit, we invite you to experience our new Ghost in the next few months. More details of this historic moment will follow over the coming weeks, beginning with a series of four beautiful animations, detailing rare insights into the lifestyles and behaviour of our Ghost client layer, and the tremendous technical substance underpinning what we believe is the most sublime expression of Rolls-Royce yet. These informative pieces will culminate in a fully digital debut of new Ghost to be followed by numerous client, media and public events around the world.

Thank you.

Stay Safe and Keep Your Spirits Up!

Over 30 travel operators offering special deals to boost Phuket travel for H2/2020
July 30 – August 2, 2020 at Parc Paragon, Siam Paragon Bangkok
Bangkok, 30 July 2020 – Phuket Tourist Association under the support of Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization together with Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) launch ‘Phuket…Ded Tang Koh’ (ภูเก็ต...เด็ดทั้งเกาะ) with aim to boost domestic tourism and to support tourism entrepreneurs after huge impact from the pandemic of COVID-19. More than 30 local tourism businesses including hotels & resorts, tour operators and other tourism businesses are offering special promotions from various tourism products and services held during July 30 – August 2, 2020 at Parc Paragon, Siam Paragon, Bangkok. Phuket Tourist Association is also revealing the details and lined up activities under the so-called ‘Phuket Model for Thai Tourism to Survive’ project believed to help boost confidence among travellers and stimulate domestic travel.
Mr. Bhummikitti Raktaengam, President of Phuket Tourist Association says that Phuket has zero new COVID-19 cases for more than 60 consecutive days and has been able to control the spread efficiently. After the lockdown has been lifted and Phuket Airport reopened to domestic flights since mid June, we have witnessed a slight bounce back in local travelling. Currently, there are 5 domestic airlines operating flights to Phuket; 12 daily flights from Bangkok, Koh Samui, Chiang Rai and U-Tapao. We expect that other flights from Udon Thani and Chiang Mai will resume very soon.
Phuket’s economy undoubtedly relies on tourism especially from overseas tourists. We have welcomed over 14.4 million tourists in 2019; 10 million overseas tourists and 4 million Thais with overall revenue from tourism reaching 480 billion Baht.  However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Phuket’s economy has been dramatically affected and devastated. Therefore, we are working closely with the government, local officials and private sectors to develop stimulus plans and projects to help over thousands of local businesses in Phuket survive. The earliest period we anticipate everything to come back to normal is Mid 2021”, said Mr Bhummikitti.
The ‘Phuket…Ded Tang Koh’ fair is inspired by our new campaign concept ‘เจ็ดทีเด็ด...Phuket Only’ aiming to drive local businesses and offering consumers with variety of products and services. We will be hosting a series of attractive and fun activities during H2/2020 highlighting Phuket’s Seven Bests; sight-seeing, sea, food, music, culture, souvenirs and promotions, creating new WOWs for Thai and Expat travellers. At the fair, Phuket operators such as hotels, excursions and tours are offering special deals, vouchers and packages at a very competitive price.
Mr. Narong Woonchiew, Phuket Governor says the pandemic of COVID 19 has undoubtedly affected Phuket and its economy tremendously. Phuket Economy mainly relied on Tourism, especially International Tourists. It is believed that Phuket has suffered economic loss roughly 1.6 billion Baht from quarter 1 and 2 combined. The loss will be unavoidably accumulated if Phuket still cannot open for International Tourists in some forms.  It is urgent for both public and private sectors in Phuket to create a new game plan, to stimulate local economy and to attract domestic travellers to visit Phuket.

The event of ‘Phuket… Ded Tang Koh (Wow! Phuket)’ is created from great cooperation from Phuket Province, Phuket Administrative Organization, Tourism Authority of Thailand and Phuket Tourist Association, to offer domestic travellers great and amazing deals from hotel, resorts, tour operators and many more. We also create series of events and activities from August to December 2020 to meet with traveler’s interests and lifestyles.
The Event Phuket has prepared and make announcement is Phuket Tastival Seafood & Gastronomy : หรอยริมเล เฟสติวัล commencing on 15-17 August until September with series of weekend activities along the beaches of Rawai, Patong, Ao Chalong, Old Town Phuket and Choeng Thalay reinforcing Phuket’s recognition as one of the world’s best culinary creative city listed by UNESCO.
In addition, Phuket will host music event called ‘Plern Rim Lay’ Festival, an on-the-beach new normal-style music festival starring Phuket-born singers such as Gam-The Star, Non-The Voice and Chaleng Sam Fay (from famous local band Cha-Leang) at Sapanhin, Phuket City.

Mr. Noppadon Pakprot  Deputy Governor for Domestic Marketing of Tourism Authority of Thailand says Phuket has become such one of the important tourism destinations in Thailand. The event of ‘Phuket… Ded Tang Koh’ (Wow! Phuket) will offer great opportunities for Thai and Expat travellers to meet new travelling experiences. Phuket has such perfect combination of international standard with unique tourism products and services such as Michelin-awards restaurants, most spectacular view and varieties of activities.

TAT will also take part of Phuket Tastival Seafood & Gastronomy: Rhoy Lim Lay Festival (Delicious by the Sea) by organizing Amazing Thai Taste Festival at old town from September 12th-13th, 2020.

3 Essential Considerations When Modernizing the Safety System of Industrial Facilities

Friedhelm Best, VP Asia Pacific, HIMA
As countries in Asia start to ease restrictions and more businesses return to operation in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, industrial plant operators are strategizing a return to normality in the midst of changes. Hygiene is top of mind for all businesses today, to protect the safety of workers and customers.

However, for businesses such as plant operators, functional safety needs to be assured at all times; even as new hygiene-related safety measures are adhered to.

As workers re-enter industrial facilities, routine activities such as planning a system modernization – likely placed on hold during the pandemic – re-enter the frame. This task requires careful consideration, especially where mandatory process industry standards, potential downtime, and soliciting service providers are involved.

What are the key considerations for ensuring that the Safety Instrumented System (SIS) of your facilities is always up to the task; can your SIS effectively monitor dangerous conditions in a plant operation unit, and take actions when a dangerous condition occurs?

1. Conform to Standards
Standards conformity is an ongoing consideration for plant operators, not only when considering SIS modernization or modification. Functional safety norms can provide legal certainty in case of liability cases and serve as guidelines for best practices during the system lifecycle.

IEC 61511 Edition 2 mandates periodical security risk assessments, qualified staff for the entire plant lifecycle, regular assessment and refresh of qualifications and cybersecurity measures to identify any security vulnerabilities. This can reveal discrepancies in systems and highlight where modernization is necessary.

When planning an SIS modernization or modification, companies must ensure that the upgraded hardware or software will adhere to the relevant standards. If there are discrepancies but the system is installed anyway, a plant’s operating license could be affected, and penalties could be incurred.

When new technologies, such as a programmable safety system is introduced, new risks and measures may come into play. It is important to ascertain whether the risk level has changed because of conversion or replacement.

For a company to prove that the SIS was IEC 61511-compliant through installation and operation, then all relevant safety and maintenance documentation will be provided by the plant operator. This includes materials to record data and document incidents.

HIMA recommends using a SIL 3-certified system for replacing and implementing a system procedure according to IEC 61511. This ensures specifications are as they should be, and functional tests of the changed equipment can be carried out.

2. Avoid Lengthy Downtime
With any modernization process, downtime is a possibility. In large-scale industrial applications, and the greater the technological leap, the longer the downtime. We recommend always planning for the long term, using compatible products, and preparing iterative shutdowns carefully.

To minimize downtime, operators should make sure technology is current, as updated versions may include bug fixes and enhancements which lead to a more fortified safety system.

HIMA engineering tools and new versions of our operating systems can be implemented without halting production. If you use interconnected systems, Our solutions allow you to replace them at any time, and the old system can safely communicate with the new one.

3. Get the Right Assistance
Modernization requires expertise. With so much to think about, support from impartial engineers and consultants presents the best chance of a smooth and efficient process.

For example, starting with the SIS itself: do your periodical reviews reveal which devices are still in use? Do you know how long they have been in use? What are the critical requirements and initial steps in the process? If you struggle to answer any of the above, seek external support.

Finding experts who can assist a seamless and compatible transition can help keep downtime to a minimum. Some technologies enable online troubleshooting and installation, reducing downtime even further.
Set Course for Future-Proof Production

For years, different industrial sectors have digitally transformed their processes. The coronavirus pandemic has only served to catalyze the move. Always remember that conformity is king in critical industries. Staying current on all standards will put you in good stead for whatever modernization process is decided on. Compile all of the documentation related to your existing systems and develop a concrete, compliant strategy to reach your end goals.

B.Grimm Power Plc (BGRIM) has bucked the trend of economic downturn caused by the Covid-19 pandemic with a robust 62.5% rise in the second-quarter net profit.
The SET-listed private power producer posted 1,017  million baht in the net profit for April-June 2020, fuelled by the continuous expansion of its production capacity and an increase in industrial customers, said Preeyanart Soontornwata, Chief Executive Officer of BGRIM.
The net profit attributable to the parent company is 1,017 million baht increase 62.5% from the same period last year, while the normalised net  profit is amounted to 1,102 million baht with 674 million baht being attributable to the parent firm, a 17.2% growth from the same period last year.
BGRIM's Board of Directors has therefore approved an interim dividend payment of 0.15 baht per share for the first half of the year.
Mrs Preeyanart said BGRIM's financial position has remained strong as the company has since last year commenced four new power plants and two SPP co-generation acquired through acquisitions to its total installed generation portfolio which grew to 3,019 MW in the mid-2020.
The two co-generation projects acquired are the B.Grimm Power (AIE-MTP), formerly known as SPP 1, and Ang Thong Power Project.
BGRIM has also seen an increase in power purchase from its new industrial clients, who committed to 25 MW supplies last year and another 15 MW in the first half of this year.
Meanwhile, the continued improvement of power plant efficiency has contributed to BGRIM's bottom line.
The second half of 2020 will see new industrial customers gradually connecting their systems with BGRIM's grids.
The power purchase from existing industrial clients is expected to ramp up in the period as reflected by the 17% rise in their electricity consumption in July this year as compared to the monthly average level recorded in the second quarter of this year.
The trend towards the declining price of natural gas will benefit BGRIM’s SPP projects, starting with a 8% gas-price reduction in July from average price in the second quarter while PTT projected that SPP gas price per unit would continually decline in the rest of the year.
At the same time, construction of BGRIM power projects has forged ahead with the 39-MW Ray Power solar project in Cambodia and the Bo Thong Wind Farm 1 & 2 with an installed capacity of 16 MW, are due for commercial operation between the fourth quarter of this year and first quarter of 2021.
These and a number of project under due diligent and study processes will ensure stable and sustainable growth to fulfill BGRIM's target to raise its total installed capacity from both operating and committed projects to 5,000 MW by 2022 .
BGRIM has been able to reinforce its success with numerous awards.
In June this year, the company was selected as a member of the 'FTSE4Good Indexes Series' by the FTSE Russell, the UK-based global index, data and analytics provider, to  reflect BGRIM's outstanding performance on the environment, social and governance (ESG) in the global scale.
In July 2020, the company received three awards from the 'Institutional Investor Corporate Awards 2020' organised by the Alpha Southeast Asia.
These awards include the 'Strongest Adherence to Corporate Governance,''Most Organised Investor Relations' and 'Most Consistent Dividend Policy.'
BGRIM's Board of Directors has approved an interim dividend payment of 0.15 baht per share. The list of shareholders eligible for receiving the interim dividend (Record Date) is scheduled  on August 31,2020 and payment is made on September 11, 2020.

NETWORK AS A SERVICE ADOPTION TO ACCELERATE BY 38% WITHIN THE NEXT TWO YEARS AS BUSINESSES ADAPT TO COVID-19

  • 74% of organizations reported moderate to significant impact to their employees due to the pandemicI
  • In response to COVID-19, 38% of IT leaders plan to increase their investment in cloud-based networking, and 35% in AI-based networking, as they seek more agile, automated infrastructures for hybrid work environments
SINGAPORE — August 14, 2020— Businesses will experience profound changes as employees’ transition to hybrid work environments following COVID-19, in turn changing the way IT teams procure and consume networking solutions. In response to the pandemic, IT leaders are now investing more in cloud-based, analytics and assurance, edge compute and AI-powered networking technologies as business recovery plans take shape. That’s according to a global survey of 2,400 IT decision-makers (ITDMs) commissioned by Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company.
As IT leaders respond to the challenges associated with enabling a highly distributed workforce and the emergence of the hybrid workplace – with people needing to move seamlessly between working on campus, at home and on the road – they are looking to evolve their network infrastructure and shift away from CapEx investments towards solutions consumed ‘as a service’. The average proportion of IT services consumed via subscription will accelerate by 38% in the next two years, from 34% of the total today to 46% in 2022 globally, whereas from 35% to 48% in APAC, and the share of organizations that consume a majority (over 50%) of their IT solutions ‘as a service’ will increase by approximately 72% in that time both globally and in APAC.
“With the emergence of the hybrid workplace, IT leaders in Singapore are being asked to deliver a delicate balance between flexibility, security and affordability at the edge,” said Justin Chiah, Senior Director, South East Asia, Taiwan and Hong Kong/Macau (SEATH), for Aruba, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise company. “It has become increasingly clear that to support these new needs, IT decision-makers are attracted to the reduced risk and cost advantages offered by a subscription model. While 85% of organizations surveyed in Singapore (77% for global) have delayed or postponed projects because of COVID-19, businesses remain resilient and are already looking for ways to remain agile, as seen from their increased investment in cloud-based networking (38%), analytics and assurance (42%), edge compute (40%) and AI-based networking technology (28%).”
The report, which surveyed ITDMs in over 20 countries and eight key industries, looked at how they have responded to IT and business demands in the wake of COVID-19, what investment decisions are being made as a result, and the consumption models now being considered. A number of key findings stood out:
IMPACT OF COVID-19 HAS SIGNIFICANT IMPLICATIONS
ITDMs reported that the impact of COVID-19 has been significant both on their employees and short-term network investments:
  • 22% describing the impact on their employees as ‘significant’ (widespread furlough or layoffs), while 52% considered it ‘moderate’ (temporary reductions in some functions), and 19% ‘low’ (very few jobs impacted).
  • ITDMs in India (57%) and Brazil (34%) were most likely to cite a significant impact on their employees, while those in Hong Kong (12%) and Mexico (10%) reported the least, highlighting a massive swing in experiences between regions.
  • 78% in APAC markets said that investments in networking projects had been postponed or delayed since the onset of COVID-19, and 27% indicated that projects had been cancelled altogether.
  • Project cancellations across APAC markets were highest in India (37%) and lowest in Australia (17%), showing there are also significant disparities between countries within the same region, while 37% of ITDMs in education and 35% in hotels and hospitality globally said they have had to cancel network investments.
THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT: INVESTING FOR EMERGING NEEDS
By contrast, future plans are aggressive, with the vast majority of ITDMs are planning to maintain or increase their networking investments in light of COVID-19, as they work to support the new needs of their employees and customers.
  • An astounding 38% globally will increase their investment in cloud-based networking, with 45% maintaining the same level and 15% scaling back. The APAC region was the global leader with 45% stating an increased investment in cloud-based networking, rising to 59% among ITDMs in India. With cloud solutions allowing for remote network management at large scale, these capabilities are particularly enticing for IT teams when being on-premises is not possible or challenging.
  • ITDMs are also seeking improved tools for network monitoring and insight, with 34% globally planning to increase their investment in analytics and assurance, 48% indicating that they will maintain their level of investment and 15% reducing it. This allows IT organizations to troubleshoot and fine-tune the network more efficiently, as demands on it are augmented by a distributed workforce.
  • There is also an emphasis on innovative technologies that simplify the lives of IT teams by automating repetitive tasks. We found 35% of ITDMs globally are planning to increase their investment in AI-based networking technologies, with the APAC region leading the charge at 44% (including 60% of ITDMs in India and 54% in Hong Kong).
ADOPTION OF NEW CONSUMPTION MODELS IS ACCELERATING
As ITDMs shape their investment plans, they are looking at alternative modes of consumption to achieve the best balance of value and flexibility.
  • 59% in Singapore say that they will explore new subscription models for hardware and/or software, 61% managed services for turnkey hardware/software and 34% financial leasing – all as a result of the impact of COVID-19. This reflects the increased need for more financially flexible models in a challenging environment.
  • Networking subscription models are more popular in APAC (61%) than in the Americas (52%) or EMEA (50%), and at a country level the highest demands are in Turkey (73%), India (70%) and China (65%).
  • The industries most likely to be considering the subscription model are hotels/hospitality (66%), technology and telecom (58%) and education (57%). The impact of COVID-19 on IT behavior has made the desire for flexibility and predictability in spending, while reducing risk from initial capital costs, greater than before.
  • In stark contrast, just 8% globally plan to continue with only CapEx investments, though the proportion is higher in the Netherlands (20%), US (17%), Spain (16%) and France (15%). Across industries, 15% in retail, distribution and transport will continue to focus solely on CapEx investments, versus just 5% in IT, tech, education and telecoms, and 2% in hotels and hospitality.
“With the needs of customers and employees have changed so comprehensively in recent months, it’s no surprise to see IT leaders seeking more flexible solutions,” says Chiah. “They are pushed to adapt fast and ensure that more complex, distributed networks can securely support the experiences users’ demand. The need for agility and flexibility in network management is now greater than ever. From the global survey, it shows that 58% of ITDMs in APAC region would explore managed service solutions – higher than the global average of 53%, which is a reflection of how the positive outlook that the APAC businesses have.”
While the pandemic has clearly impacted ongoing projects at varying degrees, this research suggests these impacts will also catalyze medium-term investment into advancing networking technologies, and a shift to more flexible models of consumption that limit up-front capital demands. Trends that were already taking hold will now accelerate, including the move to the Edge and the adoption of cloud-based and AI-driven intelligent networks.

The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organisation) or GIT together with Chanthaburi Provincial Administrative Organisation, Chanthaburi Gem and Jewelry Traders Association and Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) have announced their readiness to organise the second “International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewellery Festival 2020”, following an unexpectedly positive response. It will be held on 18-22 December 2020 at The Chanthaburi Gem and Jewellery Center, KP Jewellery Centre and OTOP Lifestyles shop at the Gems Market, Srichan Road.

Mr. Sumed Prasongpongchai, Deputy Director of GIT, said that the institute has teamed up with its partners in Chanthaburi to host the International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewellery Festival 2020 under the theme “Go Together: Chanthaburi City of Gems” to create business opportunities and increase distribution channels for entrepreneurs to sell their products to local customers due to the disruption of exports caused by COVID-19. The fair is believed to boost the local economy and increase consumer confidence in purchasing gems and jewellery products, following the Thai government policy to promote Chanthaburi as the city of gems, and Thailand as a jewellery manufacturing and global trading hub.

The event will bring together more than 300 Thai and international entrepreneurs, who will showcase raw gemstones, polished gemstones, jewellry making materials, machines and tools, as well as packaging. There will be business matching sessions and seminars to promote trade and investment.

In response to the ‘Buy with Confidence’ programme, GIT will provide a mobile gems and jewellery laboratory service to foster confidence among consumers.

“What's special about this event is its timing. It will take place at a time when people are travelling and purchasing gifts for Christmas and the New Year. It will also be an opportunity for buyers to purchase products at cheaper prices. It is expected to boost the economy in the province, including tourism and the gems and jewellery industry,” Prasongpongchai said.

Pandemic Fuels Global Demand for ‘Cobots’ in Health Sector

Collaborative robots continues to be the fastest growing segment in industrial robot sector today;  forecasted to hit 34% of global robot spend by 2025

THAILAND,  6 October 2020 - Universal Robots (UR), Denmark-based collaborative robots (cobots) technology market leader, today advised business leaders across health and related key industries to leverage robotic automation in response to COVID-19 pandemic challenges.

Cobots have emerged as a tremendous force for good in the global battle against COVID-19. Contributing to the global response to the pandemic, Universal Robots’ cobot deployments include applications in critical front-line industries such as healthcare, medical testing, sanitisation, disinfection, medical equipment, as well as tools to re-shore production and enable operations to be more flexible.

“The COVID-19 outbreak has caused a major shake-up across the global economy. Companies around the world and in Singapore need to pivot and adapt to this new reality fast. The use of robots is highly encouraged in light of new standard operating procedures, including physical-distancing and minimal human contact. As such, collaborative robots or cobots are well placed to cope with these challenges,” said Darrell Adams, Head of Southeast Asia & Oceania for Universal Robots.

Minimising human contact and protecting workers healthcare staff and patients from cross infections, cobot applications in the health and related industry have been rapidly developed and rolled out globally this year. Some of the most recent successful deployments include the following:

Cobots in Sanitisation & Disinfection

There has been a massive demand for effective deep cleaning and disinfection technologies without involving direct human contact on potentially infected areas. In April 2020, researchers at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore unveiled

eXtremeDisinfection roBOT (XDBOT), which comprises a UR5 cobot fitted with an electrostatic spray nozzle, and mounted on a mobile platform. The cobot was programmed to mimic human hand movements to get into hard-to-reach areas such as under the beds and tables.

Cobots in COVID-19 Testing

Universal Robots’ co-founder Esben Østergaard developed one of the world's first autonomous throat swabbing robot in collaboration with University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The robot uses UR3 cobot arms fitted with a custom 3D-printed end-effector. Cobots enable the throat swabbing process to be completed within seven minutes, with the swab itself taking just 25 seconds.

Closer to home, Taiwan-based Brain Navi Biotechnology, developed the world’s first autonomous nasal swab test robot using a UR cobot. The cobot can automatically recognise the patient’s facial structure, identify the position of the nostrils, hold a nasopharyngeal swab (like a long cotton swab) with a gripper, and then automatically extend it into the patient's nasopharynx and stay for about 10 to 25 seconds to collect the secretion specimen; The inspection time only takes two to five minutes, and nearly 100 people can be inspected in eight hours. Except for the initial facial positioning scan settings performed by medical staff behind a transparent protective panel, the entire process does not require human intervention.

The throat and nasal swab robots protect healthcare workers by reducing staff-patient contact with highly infectious diseases at the point of testing.

“Collaborative robots have been used in a number of ways to help companies respond to the global pandemic. Because of its key features such as safety, speed, flexibility and ease-of-use, strong demand for cobots is seen across various sectors looking to resume businesses and function at maximum productivity levels,” concluded Adams.

Despite being a niche product that accounted for just 3 percent of global robot spending in 2018, cobots are now the fastest growing segment of the industrial robot sector. By 2025, cobots are expected to jump from the niche status to thoroughly mainstream, accounting for 34 percent of global robot spend.1

About Universal Robots

Universal Robots (UR) was founded in 2005 to make robot technology accessible to all by developing small, user-friendly, reasonably priced, flexible collaborative robots (cobots) that are safe to work with. Since the first cobot was launched in 2008, the company has experienced considerable growth with the user-friendly cobot now sold worldwide. The company, which is a part of Teradyne Inc., is headquartered in Odense, Denmark, and has regional offices in the United States, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, UK, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Russia, Turkey, China, India, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Mexico. In 2019, Universal Robots had revenues of USD 248 million. For more information, please visit www.universal-robots.com.

B.Grimm Power Plc (BGRIM) has set out to embark on seven power projects worth 40 billion baht in a bold move to consolidate its status as the leading private power producer in Thailand.

The seven Industrial Power Producer schemes with a combined capacity of 980 megawatts have secured financial supports from five major banks and construction backing from two world-class building concerns.

BGRIM Chairman Harald Link said the company has now secured all it takes to successfully realise the projects which form part of BGRIM's plan to build a portfolio of 7,200 MW in the next several years.

The five lenders to the BGRIM projects are Bangkok Bank, Siam Commercial Bank, EXIM Thailand, Kasikornbank and Government Savings Bank.

The construction of the projects will be carried out by Siemens Energy Co Thailand and Toshiba Plant Systems and Services Corporation.

Preeyanart Soontornwata, Chief Executive Officer of BGRIM, stated that five of the seven industrial power plant projects are the replacement facilities under the renewed power sale accords.

The two other schemes are new undertakings with a change of location which form part of the 25-year power sale contracts, known as PPA, concluded with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) on August 2020.

These projects are primarily aimed at developing the essential infrastructure to reliably produce quality electricity and steam supplies to promote and attract the industrial investment that will benefit Thailand’s economic growth in a sustainable manner, she said.

Meanwhile, BGRIM's financial position remains strong with 19 billion baht in cash on hand and robust cash flows derived from operations.

The financial strength is conducive to BGRIM's investment in various projects and supporting future growth.

The company is on course to explore new energy investment opportunities at home and abroad to raise its total generation capacity to the targeted 7,200 MW.
