PEA teams up with Messe Frankfurt and The Exhibiz to open Thailand Lighting Fair 2017 under the theme of Smart City Safe City

3-day show is expected to generate over 1,000 million baht from business networking
Bangkok (16 November 2017): Thailand’s Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), Messe Frankfurt New Era, and The Exhibiz Co Ltd today open Thailand Lighting Fair 2017, ASEAN’s leading trade fair on lighting technology, design and solutions.

The event is being held for the third consecutive year and is at Hall 102-104, BITEC, between 16 and 18 November.

Over 500 booths of local and international exhibitors are gathered at the fair, which showcases smart technology for the most efficient smart energy management.

Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau, TCEB, has said that the Thailand Lighting Fair has been leveraged to be ASEAN’s leading international trade fair, and anticipates that the event will generate over 100 million baht for Thailand during the three-day period spanning the show.

The Exhibiz expects to welcome 15,000 visitors from over 40 countries and generate over 1 billion baht projects from business networking.
PEA Governor Sermsakul Klaikaew says that Thailand Lighting Fair 2017 is important to PEA, as PEA is the electricity provider for quality life and the promoter of energy efficiency.

“Supporting the fair is one of our working plans under the Electric Utility of the Future policy, focusing on developing human resources with innovation and creating new jobs with technology in order to push Thailand to be a smart energy country in the future.  
“The fair is also centre stage for Southeast Asia’s business networking and expanding the trade routes for lighting products for energy saving, solar technology, automatic building technology and smart security systems. All will support the Smart City Safe City concept.”
This year the fair is delivering smart innovative products and cutting-edge technology with safety and creative ideas. These are designed to match with the easy urban living style.
PEA’s booth occupies 180 sqm, showcasing PEA’s projects to support smart energy and energy saving as well as renewable energy, for example the PEA HiVE Platform, the smart energy platform for households to do efficient energy management. PEA is also displaying solar rooftops and a solar farm.
The PEA seminar has four sections, namely on the PEA HiVE Platform, solar rooftop regulations, EV charger installation standards, and energy management.
Moreover, there is a consulting area for government and private organisations as well as industrial sectors to consult on smart energy and energy saving. 
Pakwan Jiamjiroj, general manager of The Exhibiz Co Ltd, says that: “This year we have expanded the event space to 15,000 sqm. There are three concurrent events, namely Thailand Lighting Fair 2017, Thailand Building Fair 2017 and Secutech Thailand 2017.

“Therefore, the show is a comprehensive platform that combines all technologies for lighting, automatic building and security systems. That is why this year’s theme is Smart City Safe City.

“The larger event profile is also beneficial for visitors. Thailand Lighting Fair 2017 is the significant trade show that drives industry growth with innovation, in line with the Thailand 4.0 policy of the Thai government.

“We are expecting 15,000 visitors from over 40 countries and anticipate that there will be around 1,000 million baht of business value from business networking.”
TCEB’s Kanokporn Damrongkul says: “TCEB is glad to see the continual success of Thailand Lighting Fair during the previous two years in terms of bigger event space, and an increasing number of exhibitors and target visitors. TCEB therefore is supporting the fair for the third consecutive year. Thailand Lighting Fair is an important stage in driving Thailand 4.0 with the digital economy.

“The two-year success proves that Thailand Lighting Fair can be leveraged to be a truly international trade show in the region. Also, it is centre stage for business networking for the lighting industry in Thailand and ASEAN. This year, we anticipate the event will generate revenue of around 100 million baht during the three days spanning the show,” she says.

Pakwan added that: “The highlight this year is the Smart City Safe City Zone, which is the display zone of technologies to develop smart cities and safe cities.

“There will be smart city models by the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), Thammasat Smart City and Smart City of the National Housing Authority. This zone is open for sharing ideas on smart city development.”

There will also be over 30 seminars from local and international speakers. These will include:
  • Architectural 4.0 “The Extraordinary Experiences” by leading international lighting designers such as Kaoru Mende and Martin Klaasen, and Thailand’s top lighting designers.

LANXESS on course for record year after excellent third quarter

Thailand, 6 Decbmeber 2017Following an excellent third quarter of 2017, specialty chemicals company LANXESS is still on course for the highest earnings in its history.

Global sales increased by 25.1 percent or EUR 483 million to EUR 2.4 billion. A year earlier, they amounted to EUR 1.9 billion. EBITDA pre exceptionals improved by 35 percent to EUR 347 million, compared with EUR 257 million in the prior-year quarter. The contributions from the acquired Chemtura businesses as well as higher volumes had a particularly positive effect. The EBITDA margin pre exceptionals in the third quarter of 2017 stood at 14.4 percent, which was considerably above the value of 13.4 percent reported in the prior-year period.

“LANXESS is in full swing. Our clear strategic focus on high-margin specialty chemicals is increasingly paying off, and in operational terms we are performing very well in our new setup. It is particularly pleasing that all regions and all our specialty chemicals segments are seeing considerable earnings growth,” said Matthias Zachert, Chairman of the LANXESS Board of Management.

Due to one-time exceptional charges, net income was EUR 55 million, after EUR 62 million in the prior-year quarter. These one-time effects resulted primarily from the consolidation of the production of lubricant precursors and the associated discontinuation of production at the Ankerweg site in Amsterdam (Netherlands). Net income pre exceptionals increased by 37.7 percent to EUR 106 million, compared with EUR 77 million in the prior-year quarter.

After the strong figures of the third quarter, the Group is refining its earnings forecast for 2017 and lifting the lower end of the range by EUR 25 million. LANXESS now expects EBITDA pre exceptionals of between EUR 1.25 billion and EUR 1.3 billion. This would be a record for the Cologne based company, as its highest operating result to date is the roughly EUR 1.2 billion achieved in 2012.


Continuous portfolio management
After the consolidation of production of chrome chemicals and lubricant precursors, LANXESS drives the announced optimization of its portfolio. The Group sold the non-core business with chlorine dioxide disinfectant solutions to the Canadian Superior Plus Corp. The chlorine dioxide business, with its headquarters in North Kingstown, USA, and around 40 employees, was part of the Clean & Disinfect division acquired from Chemours in August 2016.

Sales of the Advanced Intermediates segment in the third quarter of 2017 were EUR 479 million, 10 percent or EUR 44 million above the prior-year figure of EUR 435 million. EBITDA pre exceptionals increased by nearly 5 percent or EUR 4 million to EUR 87 million, compared with EUR 83 million a year earlier. Higher volumes in the Advanced Industrial Intermediates business unit had a particularly positive effect. The EBITDA margin pre exceptionals was 18.2 percent, against 19.1 percent in the previous year.

Sales in the new Specialty Additives segment climbed by a very significant 124 percent or EUR 265 million to EUR 478 million, compared with EUR 213 million in the previous year. EBITDA pre exceptionals amounted to EUR 77 million up EUR 42 million or 120 percent on the prior-year level of EUR 35 million. This substantial earnings increase was mainly due to the integration of the Chemtura additives business. The EBITDA margin pre exceptionals of 16.1 percent was slightly below the prior-year level of 16.4 percent.

Sales in the Performance Chemicals segment rose by 11 percent or EUR 36 million in the third quarter of 2017 to EUR 364 million, against EUR 328 million a year earlier. EBITDA pre exceptionals advanced by EUR 9 million or 16.1 percent to EUR 65 million, compared with the prior-year level of EUR 56 million. All business units increased their sales volumes. The Clean and Disinfect specialties business acquired in the previous year made a significant contribution to the good earnings. The EBITDA margin pre exceptionals increased to 17.9 percent from 17.1 percent previously.

In the Engineering Materials segment, sales increased by 36.6 percent or EUR 94 million to EUR 351 million, up from EUR 257 million a year earlier. EBITDA pre exceptionals increased by a considerable EUR 22 million or 52.4 percent to EUR 64 million, compared with EUR 42 million a year earlier. In the High Performance Materials business unit, the positive earnings development resulted from higher volumes and the trend toward higher-margin products. The high-margin urethane business acquired as part of the Chemtura acquisition also contributed to the earnings increase. The EBITDA margin pre exceptionals was 18.2 percent, up from 16.3 percent in the prior-year quarter.

In the ARLANXEO segment, sales increased by around 6 percent or EUR 42 million to EUR 717 million, up from EUR 675 million a year earlier. EBITDA pre exceptionals amounted to EUR 76 million, 17 percent or EUR 15 million down on the comparative figure of EUR 91 million. The decline in earnings was due to the significant volatility of raw material prices and a weak US dollar. The EBITDA margin pre exceptionals was therefore 10.6 percent, against 13.5 percent a year earlier.

The film is produced by Lucasfilm and set to hit Thai theaters on December 14, 2017. MG continues growth with THB10-billion investment for New assembly plant and facility to serve the production base for ASEAN region

Chon Buri, December 8, 2017– SAIC Motor-CP Co. Ltd. and MG Sales (Thailand) Co. Ltd. recently staged the opening ceremony of the new MG production plant, located on a 437-rai plot of land at the Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate2.
The new assembly facility is result of a THB 10-billion investment and has a maximum production capacity of 100,000 vehicles per year. It features the latest automations and intelligent robotics, along with the highest levels of production and quality control technologies.
The eco-friendly plant is located within the EEC (Eastern Economic Corridor) which benefits from is position as the region’s logistics center. This makes it a global production hub for right-hand-drive MG vehicles for the Thai and ASEAN markets, as well as other markets around the world.
MG’s intentions are to grow firmly and sustainably in Thailand, and wants to contribute to supporting the Thai automobile industry and economy in the age of Thailand 4.0.
Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak chaired the opening ceremony at the new SAIC Motor-CP Co. Ltd. factory, while also present were the People’s Democratic Republic of China’s Minister Counselor to Thailand H.E. Wu Zhiwu, Charoen Phokphand Group Senior Chairman Mr. Dhanin Chearavanont, with the government and private sector representatives, as well as top executives from the Charoen Phokphand Group, SAIC Motor-CP Co. Ltd., MG employees and members of the media.
Mr. Shi Guoyong President of SAIC Motor-CP Co. Ltd., said, “Since SAIC Motor-CP and the MG brand built our first assembly plant in Thailand in 2013, we maintained high standards throughout the production process in creating the MG production center in the country, and introduce high-quality vehicles into the Thai market for the Thai people. During the past several years, SAIC Motor-CP have introduced many quality vehicles into the market such as the MG3, MG5, MG6 and MG GS. Meanwhile, MG Sales (Thailand) Co. Ltd. have also built the MG Driving Experience Center, launched after-sales service and used car brand in Thailand. Although we started off with many difficulties, today we walk solidly and we are extremely satisfied to see more and more Thai consumers put their trust in MG vehicles and purchasing our products.”
Mr. Shi Guoyong added that due to SAIC Motor’s overseas business strategy and the company’s determination to expand sales in Thailand, as well as strengthening the SAIC Motor-CP joint venture, the company decided to start construction of a new production plant in Thailand on October 13, 2016. Fourteen months later the construction was completed – the opening of the new plant and commencement of the production line will serve as a new beginning for the growth of the MG brand in Thailand. It will also help SAIC Motor-CP enjoy stronger growth than before.
“On November 14 we successfully launched the MG ZS that features the ‘i-SMART’ internet connectivity system and is the first vehicle in the world that has Thai-language voice control. During the first month there has been positive response and that makes us even more confident in the future of SAIC Motor-CP,” he said. “After the ZS, all new MG vehicles will be built at the new plant under SAIC Motor’s four main principles. They include internet car, alternative energy car, car sharing and autonomous car. We will use the most advanced product design and internet communications technologies for MG products, and offer the best motoring experience for Thai consumers with outstanding products and services. We want to make SAIC Motor-CP a world-class production hub for right-hand-drive MG vehicles in Thailand and ASEAN.”

At the ceremony, the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) for technology development and innovations in transportation between the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) and SAIC Motor-CP Co. The new MG factory not only features the latest automotive technologies ensuring excellent production quality, but also boasts advanced robotics along the production line for increased efficiency and precision, as well as to maintain high quality and safety in the production process. The new plant has lower energy consumption and emission levels, and is more environmentally-friendly while offering good ergonomics to MG workers and employees.

“Origin” signs Three new hotels with IHG worth 7.5 billion baht, announcing new JV with Nomura, kicking off the first Staybridge Suites hotel in Asia Pacific

Origin Property Public Company Limited joins forces with InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) to launch three new hotels in Thonglor and Siracha, worth 7.5 billion baht in total. The three projects aim at serving high demand from Japanese people and the investment in Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). It is also the IHG’s first launch of Staybridge Suites brand in Asia Pacific, while Origin makes a new joint venture with its Japanese partner, Nomura Real Estate Development, in Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor.
Peerapong Jaroon-ek, Chief Executive Officer of Origin Property Pcl (ORI), said that besides the residential development, the company has the vision to become the fully integrated property developer, covering hotels, service apartment, office buildings and lifestyle community malls. For hotel development, it will launch three pilot projects with a combined asset value of 7.5 billion baht. Recently, it has signed an agreement to hire InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) to manage these three hotels under its global brands including Staybridge Suites, which will be launched in Asia Pacific for the first time.

“IHG is one of the world’s leading hotel companies that operates and manages hotels across the world under various brands. It is well-known for its professional management that never misses the international standard. We, therefore, decide to use two brands of IHG to operate our first three hotels. It’s our pleasure having a chance to work with IHG onwards,” said Mr.Peerapong.

The three hotels comprise 1. Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor 2. Staybridge Suites Chonburi Siracha and 3. Holiday Inn Suites Siracha Laemchabang. All three hotels are scheduled to commence the operation within 2021.

ORI also announces a new joint venture with Nomura Real Estate Development, its key business partner in residential development, to develop Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor. ORI owns 51 per cent in the new JV and Nomura holds the remaining 49 per cent.

Rajit Sukumaran, Chief Development Officer, Asia, Middle East and Africa, InterContinental Hotels Group, said Staybridge Suites is an all-suite, residential-style brand of hotels under IHG. It features fully-equipped kitchens, separate working areas, entertainment, and free Wi-Fi – ideal for business travellers or those seeking a home away from home during their holiday. Currently, there are more than 250 Staybridge Suites hotels globally.

“We are delighted to partner with Origin Property Public Company Limited to expand our portfolio of differentiated hotels brands regionally. With the rising demand for long-stay accommodation in Bangkok and Siracha, this represents an excellent opportunity for us to introduce Staybridge Suites,” said Mr. Sukumaran.

Toshihide Tsukasaki, Executive Officer - Residential Leasing & Hotel Management Department, Logistic Property Department of Nomura Real Estate Development Co.,Ltd. said that Nomura is a leading real estate developer offering fully-integrated services in Japan. However, this is another significant step for Nomura for hotel investment in overseas. The main reason that we decide to join this investment is because we have a partner like Origin Property who is well rounded in Thailand’s property business. Moreover, we are confident in IHG’s quality brands and the project’s strategic location in Thonglor where there is high demand from foreigners.

“With our expertise and know how, we are confident the development of Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor will be able to meet the requirement of customers particularly Japanese people and make their stay the most comfortable and impressive,” said Mr. Toshihide.

This deal is part of Nomura’s mid- and long-term investment plan during its fiscal year 2016-2024, ended in end of March 2025, allocating the budget of 300 billion yen (around 90.6 billion baht) for its investment in abroad.

Ms.Jatuporn Phiukhao, Managing Director of Origin One Co Ltd, said that the Office of Foreign Workers Administration, Labour Ministry, founded that Japanese people account for 24 per cent of the total number of foreigners who work in Thailand, the highest number among all nationalities. According to the Office’s information during 2012-2016, it founded the number of expats in Bangkok has increased on average 16 per cent per annum and Thonglor is the main location for expats to work and stay. Therefore, the new hotel development in Thonglor will definitely serve the surging residential demand from foreigners in that particular area.

Siracha is another high potential location because the government has a strong determination to develop the Eastern Economic Corridor. The government has spent a huge budget on the infrastructure development as well as granted incentives to attract the investment from foreigners. To respond to the increasing number of foreign investors in both short-term and long-term stay, the company has decided to develop two hotels in the selective locations in Siracha.

Staybridge Suites Bangkok Thonglor contains 303 rooms with total space of 25,500 square meters. With the project’s value of 2.5 billion baht, it is located in Soi Sukhumvit 55 within a ten-miniute walking distance from Thonglor BTS station. It is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2019.

Staybridge Suites Chonburi Siracha is a 400-room hotel with total space of 37,200 square meters. The project, worth 2.8 billion baht, is situated on Sukhumvit Road, opposite to TukCom Siracha. It will be in operation in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Located in the Origin District project, Holiday Inn and Suites Siracha Laemchabang has 347 rooms with the total space of 30,500 square meters. The project is valued 2.2 billion baht and set to open for the service in the first quarter of 2020.

Currently, IHG has operated and managed more than 5,300 hotels with 785,000 rooms in over 100 countries across the world. Of that, it manages 22 hotels in Thailand under five brands with additional 14 hotels in pipeline. Staybridge Suites is its sixth brand in the Kingdom.
