The Michelin Guide Bangkok Debut Announcement was held at the Thewarat Sapharom Hall, Phayathai Palce with honorable guests attended the event.

Bangkok, April 21st, 2017 - Michelin and the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) have officially announced their partnership for the release of Bangkok selection of The MICHELIN Guide, the world’s most revered and recognized hotel and restaurant reference guide. The selection of the MICHELIN Guide Bangkok 2018 will be unveiled in the second half of 2017. It will allow all locals, tourists, and business travellers to discover the restaurants recommended by the MICHELIN Guide whatever their budget, tastes, and appetite.
The MICHELIN Guide Bangkok will make Thailand the second country in Southeast Asia and the sixth place in Asia to have its own MICHELIN Guide. Claire DORLAND-CLAUZEL, member of the Michelin Group Executive Committee, comments, "We are particularly pleased with the launch of this twenty-ninth selection of the MICHELIN Guide. Just one year after Singapore, Shanghai and Seoul, Bangkok marks a new milestone in our strategy to deploy the MICHELIN Guide in Asia".
According to Lionel Dantiacq, President and Managing Director – East Asia and Australia, of the Michelin Group, this partnership is a proof of Michelin Group’s dedication and love for Thailand, the country in which Michelin has been operating with success and pride for more than 25 years, employing around 7,000 people nationwide.
Bangkok stands out as one of the culinary capitals of the world, with amazing cuisines from various types of dining establishments – be it fine-dining restaurants, trendy eateries, and street food hawkers. Our MICHELIN inspectors are eager to discover the city’s culinary treasures, and excited to lend our long-standing credibility to Bangkok’s dining scene.” said Mr. Dantiacq.
The partnership between Michelin and TAT is believed to lay a strong foundation to hype up Bangkok on a global scale through the prestigious MICHELIN Guide as an international gastronomic destination.
Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said: “The MICHELIN Guide serves as an influential gastronomic reference to many people around the world. Therefore, we are confident that this partnership between Michelin and TAT will significantly benefit Thailand’s tourism industry at many levels – that is, to attract more high-profile tourists; to help increase their food spending per head  - thus, boosting the business of local restaurants; and to substantially contribute to Thailand’s overall economic development. In addition, by attempting to meet the MICHELIN Guide’s highly respected rating system, local restaurants will keep raising their bars of gastronomic excellence in quality and service.
Slated to be launched at the end of 2017 in a bilingual edition (Thai and English), the MICHELIN Guide Bangkok will be available in both print and digital versions. April 20, 2017– dtac reports a solid operating cash flow (defined as EBITDA – CAPEX) of THB2.4 billion in the first quarter of 2017. Service revenues excluding IC and net profit rebounded from last quarter to THB 16.2 billion and THB 229 million, respectively.

EBITDA amounted to THB 6.9 billion in the first quarter of 2017, declining 5.9%YoY as a result of higher handset subsidies and network OPEX. EBITDA margin improved 110bps from last year to reach 34.9% of total revenues. Depreciation and amortization expenses continued to rise due to continuous investment in the network. Consequently, net profit for Q117 declined 82% from the same period last year. However, operating cash flow remained solid at THB 2.4 billion, down from THB 2.6 billion in the same period last year.

In the first quarter of 2017, dtac continued to invest heavily in the network to serve increasing demand for data services. The number of base stations increased 17.5k from the same period last year. 4G network continued to expand and customers enjoyed better mobile Internet experiences on our network. Furthermore, dtac launched the ‘Smoothest’ advertising campaign to strengthen network perception. Customers’ satisfaction with our network quality continued to improve as indicated by several third-party surveys. Moreover, dtac introduced the ‘Flip It’ brand platform to solidify its market position and differentiate itself from competitors, together with the launch of ‘Go No Limit’ price plans and ‘Go Plearn’ prepaid SIM.

Both campaigns helped to sustain strong growth in postpaid segment, with 195k net additional subscribers, and data service during the first quarter of 2017. In addition, prepaid segment started to stabilize as indicated by flattish QoQ development of average daily service revenues.
Furthermore, dtac has revamped its dtac Reward program in order to build loyalty among the subscriber base, and at the same time improve the efficiency of its spending, as shown by lower selling and marketing expenses.

At the end of the first quarter, total subscriber base stood at 24.3 million, more than 96% of which had already been registered under DTN, a subsidiary holding the 2.1GHz license from NBTC. Revenue from data services continues to grow strongly, reaching 64% of service revenues excluding IC. dtac, with a strong spectrum portfolio of 50MHz bandwidth and the largest contiguous bandwidth in the 1800MHz frequency band, is well positioned to capture the growth of data demand and provide best wireless services to its customer base on 2G/3G/4G technologies.

dtac maintains the outlook for 2017, comprising (1) service revenue excluding IC at the same level as last year, (2) EBITDA at least at the same level as last year, and (3) CAPEX in the range of THB 17 – 20 billion.

Lars Norling, dtac’s Chief Executive Officer, said “We continue to see strong growth in revenues from data services and postpaid segment, which indicates the continuing improvement in our network quality and perception. Our prepaid segment also starts stabilizing as indicated by a flattish QoQ development in average daily revenue. The launch of the ‘Smoothest’ network advertising campaign and the ‘Flip It’ brand platform will further strengthen our network perception and market position, and help make dtac become the No. 1 digital brand in Thailand in 2020.  Moreover, we continue investing heavily in our network to ensure that our customers have the best mobile Internet experience. Finally, our cash flow and financial position remain strong.”

GfK: APAC major domestic appliances market continues to register positive growth

Smart connected air conditioners gained the highest traction with increased uptake among households
Bangkok, April 20, 2017 – Rising consumer sophistication in Asia Pacific is contributing to the positive sales trends of the major domestic appliances sector in the region. From February 2016 to January 2017, a total of USD11.13 billion worth of air conditioners, washing machines and refrigerators were sold in 12 key markets in APAC, representing a 5 per cent growth as compared to the same period in 2015.
Across Asia Pacific’s tracked markets of Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Australia and New Zealand; three countries namely Vietnam, Philippines and Taiwan exhibited the highest growth in sales of 18 per cent, 14 per cent and 5 percent respectively across all three key major domestic appliances segments.
Air conditioners were the fastest growing and best performing segment with its 9 per cent surge in sales, valued at USD3.6 billion. The segment’s robust performance was contributed by the increased consumer spend in Vietnam and Thailand due to an exceptionally long period of hot weather between April and June 2016.
“Tropical countries in the APAC region were facing hot weather towards the middle of the year, with temperatures reaching a record high, spurring consumers to purchase air conditioners to keep their homes cool,” said Jasmine Lim, Account Director for Home & Lifestyle at GfK Asia.
There has been a notable shift in the type of air conditioners consumers purchase, with an increasing number of environmentally savvy consumers opting for more energy-efficient, inverter type models which make use of R32 gas – the newest type of coolant gas used in air conditioners. In the past year, inverter type models accounted for 28 per cent of total air conditioner units sold, with 46 percent value in this region. At the same time, the R22 – a much older and less environmentally friendly air conditioner is slowly being phased out, with sales only accounting for 11 per cent of the market.
Smart connected air conditioners are also seeing an increase in uptake with sales amounting USD42 million (+36 per cent) in 2016, with Taiwan leading the market share in Asia (USD24 million), followed by Australia, New Zealand,
Thailand and Vietnam demonstrating sizeable growth.
“The outlook for the major domestic appliances market in APAC will remain optimistic due to soaring temperatures and the trend of households trading up current appliances for expensive, stylish models with more advanced technology,” said Jasmine Lim. “To some extent, consumers’ purchases are influenced by the look and style of technology products, as we saw 21 per cent of respondents in Hong Kong and 33 per cent in China agreeing in a GfK survey, that these are are important deciding factors for their technology product purchases.”

In a separate GfK study on Home Improvement, consumers across APAC have varied aspirations for their homes, but overall size and layout, and storage space were the two leading areas of improvement preferred. Of the 6,000 respondents across Australia, China, Hong Kong, Korea and Japan, we found that respondents in China would like to acquire better devices in their homes with 40 per cent selecting household appliances and 34 per cent choosing entertainment equipment. In Hong Kong, in addition to size and layout, and storage space, 28 per cent of respondents indicated their desire to change or improve their household appliances.

GfK is a participating company at Canton Fair, taking place in three phases from April 15 - 19, April 23 - 27 and May 1 - 5, 2017 in Guangzhou, China. Visit the event website for more details.
With the world’s largest retail panel, GfK tracks products and delivers insights based on both retailer and reseller actual sales data, to help brands align product availability with the expected market demand, as well as to optimise product assortment, distribution and pricing strategy.
Note:
  • APAC includes Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Australia and New Zealand
  • GfK Point of Sales tracking period: February 2016 - January 2017 versus February 2015 - January 2016
  • Value growth tracked based on local currency, but common currency for consolidated tracking based on USD.

BudgetBusinessTravel.com: Rethinking the Way Business Trips Are Managed

New online travel company offers a host of options for the independent business traveler
BANGKOK, Thailand: The launch of the membership-based online travel company, BudgetBusinessTravel.com on April 27, 2017, gives business travelers from around the world a chance to significantly change the way they plan and manage their itineraries for the better. This is made possible by the website’s customer oriented approach, their advantageous prices and their sophisticated rewards program.
The number of people booking trips online through online travel agencies (OTA) is growing steadily and shows no sign of stopping. Especially independent business travelers rely heavily on OTAs as they must book and manage their company trips by themselves rather than relying on expensive travel management firms. However, since the standard OTAs focus on leisure travelers, independent business travelers are often ignored as a target market.
Having experienced this himself, the founder and owner of BudgetBusinessTravel.com, Mr. Steve Harrop, decided to create a booking engine that would address the needs of independent business travelers. Over the past year, he developed his business idea and built the BudgetBusinessTravel.com website. It features a clean, easy-to-navigate interface that focuses on user-friendliness and enables all members to quickly find and book the best rates on hotels and flights.
What sets BudgetBusinessTravel apart from other OTA however, is that, apart from being able to book their own trips, members have the option to request assistance from their personal account manager at any time, 24/7. This service will make it a lot easier for business travelers to update their itineraries and change bookings quickly and without having to pay unnecessary processing fees.
Another strong benefit of BudgetBusinessTravel is their unique seven-level rewards program. Members can progress from one level to the next by booking more trips on the website or by referrals. That way they can unlock additional, concierge-like services and benefit from discounts on their trips. What makes this program so unique though, is that everybody maintains their level and its perks for life. Unlike other loyalty programs where participants lose their status after a certain time of inactivity, BudgetBusinessTravel guarantees its members lifetime access to their benefits.
“Today close to 55% of travelers book their trips online and this number has been growing around 12% p.a. in recent years. Independent business travelers are a large part of this 55 % but are often overlooked by the travel industry. This is why BudgetBusinessTravel really fills a gap in the world of OTAs. It addresses the needs of independent business travelers in a way that will make traveling for work a lot less stressful through high-quality customer service and an attractive rewards program,” explains Mr. Steve Harrop, founder of BudgetBusinessTravel.com.

Steve Harrop
Owner and Founder of BudgetBusinessTravel

For the British entrepreneur, Steve Harrop founding and running an online booking engine is the answer to several personal experiences he made during his corporate career in finance and accounting. After being confronted with a surprising lack of service and customer recognition at major airlines he had been loyally traveling with for many years, the idea of creating his own company started forming.
His idea was to build an online booking engine that would give members the chance to book their own trips but ask for assistance from their personal account manager at any time. What was particularly important to Mr. Harrop as well, was that faithful customers would benefit from a strong rewards program that was not time sensitive and would not expire, even if no new bookings were made for a while. Having been affected by this himself when his company cut back on corporate travel after the financial crisis of 2008/2009, he wanted to create a platform where his customers would not face such issues but instead receive outstanding service and excellent rewards.
With ten years of experience working for leading destination management companies in senior roles such as Chief Finance Officer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer, and more than 20 years in the finance and accounting field, Mr. Harrop gained the expertise necessary to start building his company. After two years of careful research and planning, he launched the development of his BudgetBusinessTravel.com, a year-long process that comes to a successful close with the launch of his online booking website on 27 April 2017.
Born and educated in the United Kingdom, Steve Harrop has always had a passion for numbers and a strong understanding of topics related to finance and accounting. He decided to further pursue this direction in his studies and became a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the world's largest professional body of management accountants offering. He also obtained a post graduate diploma in Business Administration at the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom before beginning his international career and ultimately starting his own business.

Kaspersky Lab joins INTERPOL-led cybercrime operation across ASEAN

Identifies close to 9,000 C2 servers and hundreds of compromised websites, including government portals
Kaspersky Lab today announced its participation in a groundbreaking INTERPOL-led cybercrime operation involving public and private sectors across the ASEAN region. Nearly 9,000 botnet command and control (C2) servers and hundreds of compromised websites, including government portals were identified from the activity.

The operation was carried out from the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovation (IGCI) in Singapore, the research and development facility of the world’s largest police organization.

Cybercrime investigators from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam gathered together at the IGCI to exchange information on specific cybercrime situations in their respective countries. An additional cyber intelligence report was contributed by China.

Experts from Kaspersky Lab cooperated with the INTERPOL to share fresh cyberthreat discoveries and to formulate recommended actions along with six other private companies, namely Cyber Defense Institute, Booz Allen Hamilton, British Telecom, Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, and Trend Micro.

Being the only vendor able to detect the infection at the time, Kaspersky Lab provided the INTERPOL team with an exclusive report on a WordPress plugin vulnerability that has affected thousands of websites in the region, including those belonging to government agencies, universities, NGOs, and private businesses.

The vulnerability allowed perpetrators to inject malicious codes to over 5,000 legitimate webpages around the globe and redirect the users to advertising pages of counterfeit goods. The vulnerability also allowed other types of malicious activity such as potentially unwanted programs (PUP) downloads, password brute-forcing, and proxy among others.

Kaspersky Lab has also furnished the IGCI with an extensive list of 8,800 botnet C2 servers found to be active in ASEAN countries, as retrieved from the Kaspersky Security Network and Botnet C&C Threat Feed. Formed from the words “robot” and “network”, a botnet is a zombie network of thousands or millions of Internet-connected devices (such as PCs, smartphones, tablets, routers, smart toys, or other gadgets) that are hacked and infected with a special malware so that these could be controlled by a cybercriminal to deliver cyberattacks.

The botnets data shared by Kaspersky Lab covered various malware families, specifically those targeting financial organizations, spreading ransomware, launching distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, distributing spam, and enabling other criminal activities. Investigations into the C2 servers are currently ongoing.

The operation's findings also include the confirmation of nearly 270 websites infected with a malware code which exploited a vulnerability in the website design application. Among the victims of malware infection were several government websites which may have stored some personal data of its citizens.

A number of phishing website operators were also discovered such as one with links to Nigeria.  One cybercriminal based in Indonesia selling phishing kits via the Darknet had been ascertained to have posted tutorial videos on YouTube showing customers how to use the illegal software.

According to IGCI Executive Director Noboru Nakatani, the operation was ideal as it demonstrated a highly effective and beneficial public-private partnership in the fight against cybercrime. “Sharing intelligence was the basis of the success of this operation, and such cooperation is vital for long term effectiveness in managing cooperation networks for both future operations and day-to-day activity in combating cybercrime,” said Nakatani.
“Public-private sharing is a critical step in fighting cybercrime in the region,” said Anton Shingarev, Vice-President Public Affairs of Kaspersky Lab. “But for this operation, access to intelligence and technology has been as important as the experience of learning from each other throughout the process, resulting in better understanding and collaboration between private partners and law enforcement agencies. This makes the INTERPOL Global Complex for Innovations a unique platform that transforms intelligence sharing into meaningful and impactful actions against cybercriminals both at the regional and national levels.”

Kaspersky Lab Thailand Ramps Up Ransomware Protection for Small Businesses With Kaspersky Small Office Security

$

0
Kaspersky Lab has released a new version of its Kaspersky Small Office Security software to help Small Medium Businesses (SMBs) stay on top of the ever growing number of cyberthreats they face today. With enhanced anti-ransomware functionality, improved safeguarding of online financial transactions and convenient security status monitoring, Kaspersky Small Office Security can help SMBs flourish by keeping the fraudsters at bay.
According to Ms. Sylvia Ng, General Manager – SEA of Kaspersky Lab, the introduction of the new version of Kaspersky Small Office Security software is set to further protect SMBs in Thailand.
Small and medium companies make up 98.5% of businesses in Thailand and account for some 70% of national employment, which is higher than the global average of 70%. SMBs contribute to about 30% of total exports from Thailand. SMBs feature prominently in the government’s strategy to stimulate growth and development.
“Given the economic importance of this sector, it needs to be protected with products that are developed specifically for a 5 to 50 seat environment. However, the majority of SMBs in Thailand do not see security and protection of their IT infrastructure as necessary because they view themselves as too small and insignificant to draw cybercriminals’ interest,” said Ms. Ng.
An axiom for any business is that it exists for profit, whatever it produces or offers. Of course, startups have to keep their belts tightened, and saving on their own security often seems logical. It is not. At first it may seem logical, but cybercriminals care little about the size and sales of their victim. There are just two questions they want answered; is there any money and is it difficult to get?  A “yes-no” combination is an attack in the making. This is where Kaspersky Small Security Office can help in fortifying the cyberperimeter with a solution tailored for small businesses that require simple to use but effective protection tools,» explained Ms. Ng.
In line with recent research from Kaspersky Lab, finding that 42% of SMBs are concerned about the threat of crypto malware, the latest version of Kaspersky Small Office Security offers enriched protection against the growing threat of “cryptors”. Anti-ransomware capabilities in System Watcher component not only block malicious encryption attempts, but trigger an automatic backup and restore for ultimate peace of mind.
With over half of all SMBs in the US now relying on mobile banking to access and manage their accounts, the popularity of online transactions has not gone unnoticed by the criminal community. To counteract this, the enhanced Safe Money feature within Kaspersky Small Office Security provides improved safeguarding of financial transactions from fraudsters, by protecting against the taking of screen grabs or use of the clipboard functionality, which cybercriminals typically rely on to steal precious business data and financial assets.
As well as these important improvements, the latest version of Kaspersky Small Office Security also provides small businesses with an easy way to monitor their security status. Through a dedicated, cloud-based monitoring console, businesses have a single view of the protection status of all devices on their network – from PCs and laptops, through to file servers and mobile devices. The online portal means this information can be accessed from anywhere, at any time, and protection settings activated or changed as required, to help businesses stay totally protected.
“With the threat and potential damage of crypto malware a very real proposition for small businesses, the latest enhancements to our small office solution means that SMBs can keep up and ensure ‘business as usual’ amidst an ever-changing threat landscape. The reliance on mobile and online transactions between suppliers and customers has also made the safeguarding of financial interactions extremely important and we have made improvements to help SMBs focus on growing their business and remaining competitive rather than worrying about who’s watching,” said Vladimir Zapolyansky, Head of SMB Marketing at Kaspersky Lab.
Designed specifically for businesses with 5-50 computers, Kaspersky Small Office Security provides the world’s most tested, most awarded security to PCs, file servers, laptops and mobile devices, protecting SMBs from online attacks, financial fraud, ransomware and data loss.
“Kaspersky Small Office Security offers out of the box simplicity combined with extended functionality and control. The cloud-based console makes remote management and monitoring easy. A single web page displays the security status of all your devices, enables you to activate security on any device and have easy access to Kaspersky Technical Support,” said Ms. Benjamas Chuthapiphat, Territory Channel Manager for Thailand, Kaspersky Lab
Kaspersky Small Office Security is available nationwide at the price starting of THB 8,000 for 5 PCs and 1 file server. For more detailed product information and technical support, please contact Thai Kaspersky Service Center (iCom Tech Co. Ltd.) at 02-203-7500 or visit www.thaikaspersky.com or https://www.kaspersky.com/small-business-security
