Kaspersky Lab Thailand presents new 2017 versions of its flagship consumer security solutions with enhanced data protection features

Kaspersky Lab has presented the new versions of its flagship security solutions Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Anti-Virus, as well as the new launch of Kaspersky Total Security, which provide users with additional opportunities to manage their internet protection and to ensure their data safety, with Windows 10 compatibility.
Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Total Security are security solutions for the whole family; they protect Windows, Mac, and Android users against malware, dangerous sites, online tracking, fraud and money theft.
This year Kaspersky Lab products for Windows have integrated several new functions. Now users can protect their data from being intercepted during an unsafe Internet connection with the help of Secure Connection. In addition, they can patch potential "holes" in their device security with Software Updater and Software Cleaner.
"At Kaspersky Lab we believe that IT security is not only about the effectiveness of a security solution. It is also about the user’s own cyber savviness. Cyber savvy people behave carefully and watchfully online, and they are also ready to apply the latest technological achievements to protect what is most important for them – whether that’s personal information, files, privacy, their devices or peace of mind for their family members. We are striving to offer the user these possibilities with each new version of our solutions", commented Sylvia Ng, General Manager, Kaspersky Lab SEA.
What is new?
Secure Connection
Secure Connection allows users to connect to the Internet safely, by encrypting all data sent and received through the network. This is especially important when performing financial operations, authorization on sites, or transferring confidential information, as in these cases traffic interception by a stranger could cause users serious (for example, financial) losses.
This function is especially useful while traveling, when many people are increasingly connecting to insecure Wi-Fi networks to stay in touch. According to the Kaspersky Lab study, every fifth (18%) user has fallen victim to cybercriminals when traveling. This is not surprising considering the fact that – what a coincidence! – one in five (18%) travelers does not take any steps to protect them online. Secure Connection is now a necessary protection measure when connecting to a public Wi-Fi.
The Kaspersky Lab protection component, Secure Connection, can be launched from the main window of Kaspersky Internet Security or Kaspersky Total Security. It can also be activated automatically when the device is connected to public Wi-Fi or the user is inputting confidential information online, such as on banking websites, online stores, payment systems, e-mail, social networks, etc.
Within the security product’s license, users have 200 MB of encrypted traffic at their daily disposal, and for an additional monthly or annual fee they can get an unlimited volume of traffic.
Software Updater
One of the common methods of malware penetrating the computer is the use of errors (so-called vulnerabilities) in the programs installed on it. Developers regularly update their products, however not all users regularly update these on their devices. Software Updater can automatically find the applications that need to be updated and, if the user agrees, install the latest versions from vendor sites on their computer. The user can also request the update of an application manually or add any of them to the list of applications that should not be updated (for example, if the older version is required).
Software Cleaner
According to the Kaspersky Lab study, 37% of users store programs that they do not use on their device. In addition to the fact that this overloads the device memory, it also provides extra opportunities for cybercriminals to penetrate the system. Software Cleaner scans all applications installed on the computer and marks those posing potential risk. Users sometimes do not even know about these applications being installed on their devices or are unaware of their negative affects.
Software Cleaner will inform users of a program if it has been installed without their awareness or clear consent (for example, as additional software during the installation of another application), or if it slows down the user’s device, provides incomplete/incorrect information about its functions, operates in the background mode, shows banners and messages without permission (e.g., advertising), or is rarely used. Upon receipt of a report from Software Cleaner, the user can either remove or leave the application in question.
What is improved?
In addition to the new functions, Kaspersky Internet Security and Kaspersky Total Security have been enhanced with improved advanced technologies such as the multi-level protection of financial transactions (with Safe Money), the prevention of the installation of unwanted applications (with Application Manager, part of the former Change Control feature) and the blocking of advertising banners in the browser (with Anti-Banner).
Kaspersky Total Security 2017, Kaspersky Internet Security 2017, and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2017 are available nationwide at all IT leading outlets and retail at the price of:-

December 14, 2016 –  Facebook users on dtac network will experience better services after dtac, Ericsson, and Facebook team up to optimize the user app experience. Facebook is among the most popular apps in Thailand with 41 million users.  dtac always moves forward not only to upgrade the mobile internet speed and expand 4G network coverage, but also to improve the user app experience. These have been constantly done for dtac’s customers.
Mr. Prathet Tankuranun, Chief Technology Officer, Total Access Communication PLC. or dtac said, “dtac has a clear standpoint and a long-term target of giving the benefits to consumers and Thailand. We have planned to invest on network development and expansion. We rather give our customers better experience in using our service than make up some numbers on speed test apps and then forget all users’ needs. Our strength is our 4G service on 1800 MHz band that occupies the widest band of 20 MHz abundant for all dtac customers to sense smooth experience on digital services.”
dtac aims to develop not only the network for customers’ best service experience, but also the user app experience on smart phones to the next level especially on Facebook, the most accessed social media platform on our network or over 90% of dtac data subscribers. In Thailand, 41 million out of the nation population of 68.2 million are using Facebook, according to a report on www.internetoworldstats.com. The collaboration of dtac, Ericsson, and Facebook to improve the app performance based on optimization that is looking not only at the speed test for uploading and downloading but also deeply at actual app performance in various situations covering all utilized patterns.
The satisfaction index in data-hungry world does not perform only on the network speed but also on user app experience. For example, time-to-content and time-to-share are key performance indicators that have direct impact on customer satisfaction in the mobile phone network. Also, the indicator includes the smoothness of app response during busy hours (7 p.m. to 9 p.m.), the most-accessed Facebook period for Thai users. dtac is extremely pleased with the results achieved in this project with Ericsson and Facebook. Experimental results were not done in the laboratory, but were directly taken from the applications. Also, they were used to improve the user app experience on practical devices, network, and real-time applications for several designed situations. Then, optimization was successfully done especially on Facebook. Thus, dtac users will have better experience in our overall network performance, not only just Facebook,” added Prathet.
Ms. Nadine Allen, Head of Ericsson Thailand said, “2016 marks 110 years of Ericsson in Thailand and over the years Ericsson has been working with customers, partners, and government to revolutionize the way Thai people live, work and communicate with each other. Through our long term partnership with dtac and established collaboration with Facebook, we are proud to participate in this unique project to help bring positive app experience for smartphone users. The resultant whitepaper detailing the methodology and findings from the project provides operators and developers a deeper understanding on many network variables that can impact user adoption, which is particularly critical as we work to connect the unconnected to the internet.”
Mr. Markku Makelainen, Director of Global Operator Partnerships, Facebook said, “Our goal is to bring affordable internet access and connectivity to the two-thirds of the world that don’t have it. As part of this effort, we work with operators and our partners to help optimize their networks to provide a more robust experience on the Facebook app and other services. We are excited to share learnings from our work with Ericsson and DTAC in the hopes that it may help others enhance mobile networks around the world.”
The success of the study meant that Facebook users were not only able to get content from their friends faster, but could also share their experiences within a quicker time period. In addition, Facebook users could be served from the same mobile network node, without having to build additional infrastructure and hardware. This provides benefits to both mobile operators and users, in terms of delivering a superior customer experience through an optimized network.

NOTES TO EDITORS AND PRESS

About the optimization results
The measurement started in mid-2015 where typical Facebook interactions were triggered from Facebook test accounts and measured on different mobile test devices in central Bangkok; an area chosen for its very high traffic load, due to a high number of data subscribers. The partners then correlated user-centric Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) from the Facebook application with network performance KPIs, in a way that made it possible to understand the perceived user experience in various network conditions. Adjustments were then made to the DTAC network to optimize network resources for target improvements. The resultant optimizations improved Facebook app experience by up to 60 percent:
·        13-34 percent improvement in app experience during ‘busy hour’
·        54 percent improvement in time-to-content
·        63 percent improvement in time-to-share
·        >60 percent improvement in Facebook upload and download time

  • Uniquely designed in traditional Thai architecture by National Artist Pinyo Suwankiri
  • CH Karnchang shares the country pride as the project developer
With its unique design in traditional Thai architecture style, the latest electric train station project, Sanam Chai, will give the city a new landmark and a new pride. Ch Karnchang, as assigned by the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA), is responsible for the construction of this unique station by combining its engineering excellence with refine Thai art where national artist Assoc. Prof. Pinyo Suwankiri lent his design talent to complete this mission. This station will definitely rise as a new landmark for Thailand in the future.
Assoc. Prof. Pinyo Suwankiri, who was named the national artist (architecture) in 1994 and has designed many leading buildings in Thailand and overseas all known for their refine Thai architectural style, said the historic places in the area were the inspiration for the exceptional design for Sanam Chai Station.
“It was our intention to make this station a unique place cherished by the world. When considering that this station is located in the inner ancient city of Bangkok and the discovery of the ancient foundation of an old palace at the construction site, we believe the traditional Thai architectural style is the perfect fit. We want this station to communicate the value of Thai culture, something that will blend modern lifestyle and transport mode with the unique Thai way of life,” said Assoc. Prof. Pinyo.
The floor plan of the interior of the station resembles ancient Thai architecture. Big white square poles are lining on both sides. The top of the poles are decorated with lotus pattern coated with gold leaves while the bottom of the poles is set on an elevated base. Walls and floor resemble ancient city wall.  Decorative tiles on the walls are in flowery patterns. The red ceiling is decorated with starts and moon, coated with gold leaves. When walking into the station, one would feel like walking into a lavishly decorated ancient Thai building.
While most parts are decorated in traditional Thai style, the station has quite a strong modern accent with graphic lines and shapes on the floor, poles and decoration details. More importantly, the floor plan is designed in such a way to provide the highest convenience for city hoppers to catch the train comfortably and efficiently.
“I have looked at all details myself. I want this station to best represent Thai culture and art, something that everyone around the world know. We put our heart in design and making so as to create a masterpiece that lasts long and be is recognized as a national heritage, not just a passenger terminal. In addition, this is a nice way to conserve Thai art and culture for the younger generation,” said Assoc. Prof. Pinyo.
Sanam Chai Station is a part of the Blue Line Extension ‘Bang Sue-Tha Phra  and Hua Lamphong-Bangkhae,’ under the care of MRTA,who has assigned Ch Karnchang to design and build the stations in the Sanam Chai-Tha Phra part of the project, which comprises a total of 5 parts (contracts). At present, the part of the project responsible by Ch Karnchang is 100% completed and will be completed as scheduled.
Sanam Chai Station is located on Sanam Chai Road on the Koh Rattanakosin area, not far from the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and the Grand Palace. The area is full of ancient and cultural sites and buildings, making it one of the most popular tourist attraction areas.
Dr. Supamas Trivisvavet, CEO of Ch Karnchang Plc, said, “Engineering meets arts might be the best to describe this project. We have put our 40 years of experience and engineering excellence to control and manage the construction well. At the same time, we blend it with the exotic Thai art and culture. The final result is this unique station in extraordinary traditional Thai architectural style, an exceptional combination ready to excite the general public and customers,” said Dr. Supamas.
“Apart from its exquisite Thai design from Rattanakosin Era, the Sanam Chai Station is the fruit of excellence in engineering, fine art and a courtesy to users with its friendly floor plan. The station will definitely become a new landmark of Bangkok, a place where traditional Thai culture meets modern lifestyle,” she added.
When completed, the Blue Lineelectric train project will be the distinctive train service. The routing will cut through a historical area while stations stand out with unique design. In addition to the Sanam Chai Station, the Isarapap Station will be another one whose design is inspired by the historical sites in the area. The Isarapap Station, located near Wat Hong Rattanaram Ratchavoravihara Temple, will be decorated with swans as the temple name means swan.
“Such unique design is a pleasant way to tell story of the place where the station is located. The station will impress foreign passengers and raise awareness of the value of the Thai heritage among Thai people. Ch Karnchang is proud to be part of this project and to build a good transport infrastructure that also tell good story about the beautiful culture of Thailand,” said Dr. Supamas.

The BSR Joint Venture ( BSR ), comprising of BTS Group Holdings Public Company Limited( BTSG ),Sino - Thai  Engineering and Construction Public Company Limited( STEC ) and Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding Public Company Limited ( RATCH ), recently held a press conference regarding the ‘ Pink Line Monorail Project : Khae Rai - Min Buri Section and Yellow Line Monorail Project : Lat Phrao - Samrong Section’ at the Surasak Room 2-3,11th Floor of the Eastin Sathorn Hotel Bangkok.
Mr. Keeree Kanjanapas, Chairman of the BTS Group, on behalf of the BSR Joint Venture, expressed gratitude to the government and the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand ( MRTA )for nominating the BSR as the winning bidder for the concessions, in compliance with the Private Investments in State Undertaking Act, B.E. 2556 (2013). Under prescribed terms, the concessionaire will be responsible for the design, build, and supply of Civil Works, M&E Systems and O&M Services for the two projects. Accordingly BSR will now enter into further negotiations for the implementation of a PPP Net Cost arrangement for both the Pink Line Monorail Project : Khae Rai - Min Buri Section and the Yellow Line Monorail Project: Lat Phrao - Samrong Section, results of which are to be submitted for cabinet approval in March or April 2017.
Under the PPP Net Cost arrangement for the Pink and Yellow Line Projects, the government will be responsible for the acquisition of land and provide funding of up to 20,135 billion Baht for civil works construction of the Pink Line, and 22,354 Billion Baht for the Yellow Line. The concessionaire will carry out civil works construction, install M&E systems, and provide train operation and maintenance services. The total investment cost of the Pink Line is 53,490 Billion Baht and for the Yellow Line 51,810 Billion Baht. The concession contracts for both projects cover a period of 33 years and 3 months (construction period of 3 years 3 months, followed by 30 years of train operation and maintenance). The concessionaire will be responsible for train operation and maintenance, automatic fare collection and commercial development in the system throughout the concession contract, with revenue going to the MRTA.
Mr.Keeree added that BTSC, as an established investor in elevated train development for more than 25 years since,  became the country's first mass transit railway operator when the BTS SkyTrain opened in 1999 and now has over 17 years of experience operating under a PPP net cost concession. Over the years the company has faced many difficulties, but has succeeded in providing fast, convenient and high quality transport services for the people of Bangkok. The company has undertaken a thorough feasibility study of these two projects and is confident that the two lines are suitable for investment by the private sector and can achieve an acceptable return. Given the strong alliance with Sino - Thai and  Ratchaburi, BSR Joint Venture can ensure that the project will be run efficiently and that the cost of construction is competitive. During the bidding process,Sino - Thai, the country's leading construction company, worked hard to establish the most cost-effective pricing for the civil works, while Ratchaburi, with established expertise in electrical power systems provided detailed technical advice, lending further competitive edge to the bid. Together with a thorough knowledge of train system procurement and good connections with international suppliers established over many years, the BSR Joint Venture is confident in its capability to both invest in and successfully deliver these major new mass transit projects.
In addition, to further enhance the convenience and viability of the Pink and Yellow Lines for the travelling public, BSR has offered to extend the Pink Line a distance of 2.6 km. from Sri Rat Station (PK 10) on Chaeng Wattana Road, to provide a direct connection to Muang Thong Thani. This densely populated area is rapidly expanding with major commercial developments and government offices, as well as the site of the Impact Muang Thong Thani Exhibition Trade Centre, which hosts many international events attended over 2 million people. The new line extension would provide both added convenience as well as reduce road traffic congestion at peak times.
For the Yellow Line Project, BSR Joint Venture is offering to extend the line from Ratchada Station ( YL01 ) running along Ratchadapisek Road and terminating at a new station close to the Ratchayothin intersection. The new station would then be linked via a walkway to the Green Line extension ( Mo Chit – Ku-Kot now under construction ) at Station 10 ( Soi Phaholyothin 24 ).
In order to provide passengers with even more travel convenience, BSR will provide one ticket: Single Journey and SmartPass  (Mangmoom Card ) for use on the existing line, pink line and yellow line. The links with existing lines will be paid-to-paid, allowing passengers to connect seamlessly without exiting andre-entering the system.
BTS Group, Sino - Thai and Ratchaburi intend to invest in both projects, with each project having a fully registered share capital of 14 billion, totaling 28 billion. The remaining investment of 70 billion will be in the form of a loan from an appropriate financial institution and/or raised from the capital market i.e. bond issue etc. BSR Joint Venture has already discussed arrangements with various financial institutions and concerned parties, and believe that funding can be secured to meet the project schedule.
Mr. Pakpoom Srichamni, President of Sino-Thai, said that the company has undertaken a careful feasibility study of both projects and is confident that it is able to construct the civil works as scheduled within the price offered.  Launching construction of both projects simultaneously will lead to various cost advantages from combined resourcing.
Mr. Rum Herabat, Chief Executive Officer of Ratchaburi Electric said that the company is interested to invest in the new railway system, as it has established expertise and resources in electrical systems related to the mass transit. The company will work closely with BTS Group and Sino-Thai on the project implementation and is confident in the investment potential of the Pink and Yellow Line Projects.

THE PINK LINE

KHAE RAI – MIN BURI

BACKGROUND

The Pink Line mass transit system (Khae Rai - Min Buri) is one of the mass transits planned in Mass Rapid Transit Master Plan in Bangkok Metropolitan Region: M-MAP. The Pink Line network has been planned to accommodate travel demand of the northern Bangkok. According to the M-MAP developed by the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP), the Pink Line was assigned as a minor mass transit system in terms of elevated straddle monorail. This project is a monorail system with 34.5 kilometer distance.

CHARACTERISTICS

Alignment

The Pink Line has been planned to accommodate travel demand of the northern Bangkok between Min Buri district and Nonthaburi Province. Route alignment of the Pink Line starts from the first station located between Nonthaburi Civic Center and Khae Rai intersection on Rattanathibet road. At this station, passengers can connect to the Purple Line mass transit system (Bang Yai – Bang Sue). Then, the alignment turns left and goes along Tiwanon road until Pak Kret intersection, then turns right onto Chaeng Watthana road, passes Muang Thong Thani, passes Government Complex Commemorating His Majesty and Lak Si intersection. Also, the alignment will have a connection to the Dark Red Line at Lak Si station and the alignment continues by passing under the Don Muang Tollway and heads for Ramindra road. At Wat Prasrimahathat station (Phithak Ratthathammanun Monument), it will be an interchange station of the Pink Line and the Dark Green Line (Mo Chit - Sapanmai). The alignment follows Ramindra road, crosses over the Chalong Rat expressway until reaches Min Buri intersection, then enters Min Buri Municipality, turns right, crosses over Ramkhamhaeng road and ends at Ramkhamhaeng-Rom Klao intersection. At this terminal station (Min Buri), passengers can connect to the Orange Line (Taling Chan - Min Buri). The entire length of the Pink Line contains the distance of 34.5 kilometers.

Structure

The pre - cast girder is the most appropriate for the viaduct structure because mostly of the alignment is at the middle of the road median. Typical viaduct structures in Pink Line project mostly are single column with dual track. Standard span, less than 25 meters length, would use prestressed concrete girder. Steel guideway girder can be used in the long span which span length is greater than 25 meters. Substructures of the elevated structures can be divided into 2 types; single column and portal frame. The span length is about 20 – 30 meters. The column is on the 1.5-1.8 meters diameter of pile cap or barrette pile. The distance between centers of beam is about 3.7 meters in the straight line section and increasing in the curve line section.

Stations

There will be 30 stations along the route. Station structure will be an elevated structure type. Platform stations are either lateral or central depends on physical conditions. Certain stations will be integrated with other mass transit lines to allow the transfer of passengers. Escalators, lifts, toilets, information displays, public address and all facilities for the handicap will be equipped.

Depot

Depot at Min Buri is located on the area of approximately 118,400 square meters(229 Rai) near Ramkhamhaeng road between Soi Ramkhamhaeng 192 and Song Ton Nun Canal. As depot is at the terminal station, train will be more convenience to operate. Moreover, P&R facilities at this depot can serve passengers not only the Pink Line but also, the Orange Line because this station is an interchange station between both transit lines.

Park & Ride

1 park and ride building at Min Buri station . Park and ride building capacity is 3,000 cars

Track

The standard track gauge shall be 1,435 millimeters, measured 14 millimeters below the surface of the rails between the inner faces of the two running rails.

Rolling Stock

The 750 Volts DC rolling stock with 3 to 4 cars will be used. The system should have a service capacity of more than 30,000 passengers per hour per direction.

Systemwide and Fare Collection System

The signaling and communication system, power supply and fare collection system of this line will be the same as those of the Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line.

THE YELLOW LINE
LAT PHRAO-SAMRONG

LAT PHRAO-SAMRONG
BACKGROUND

According to the feasibility study on economics and environment and the preliminary design of the Yellow Line project which was undertaken by Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP) during the years 2007-2011, the Yellow Line project was divided into 2 sections, i.e. Ratchada/Lat Phrao-Phatthanakan section and Phatthanakan-Samrong section, or The Yellow

Line(Lat Phrao - Samrong)

CHARACTERISTICS

The Yellow Line(Lat Phrao-Samrong) is the straddle monorail system on the elevated structure, 30.4 kilometers with 23 stations. It is the interconnecting line between the Blue Line at Ratchada station (Lat Phrao station of the Blue Line) and the other 4 lines of mass transit system, i.e. the Grey Line(◌ฺBMA) at Chalong Rat intersection, the Orange Line at Lam Sali intersection, Airport Rail Link at Rama IX interchange and the Green Line: Bearing-Samut Prakan at Samrong station.

Alignment (Lat Phrao-Samrong)

The alignment originates at the interchange station with the Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line (the Blue Line Initial System) at Ratchada/Lat Phrao intersection and runs along Lat Phrao road, to connect with the Grey Line(BMA) at Chalong Rat intersection, across Chalong Rat Expressway to Bang Kapi intersection. Then, the alignment will turn right toward south on Srinagarindra road to connect with the Orange Line at Lam Sali intersection, across Rama IX interchange to connect with the Airport Rail Link through Phatthanakan, Si Nut, Si Udom Suk, Si Iam til Si Thepha intersection. The alignment will turn west onto Thepharak road to interconnect with the Green Line: Bearing-Samut Prakan at Samrong station and ends on Pu Chao Saming Phrai road. The total length is approximately 30.4 kilometers consisting of 23 stations, a depot at the east of SiIam interchange, a park and ride building at the space of Si Iam interchange

RECO YOUNG DESIGNER COMPETITION 2017 Bringing Together Designers to Create Ideas from Recycled Materials under the ECOFIT Theme

Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited (IVL) is organizing the RECO Young Designer Competition 2017, the biggest design competitions for recycling in Thailand. This year’s edition has officially begun, and what makes this year’s competition so special is that previous winners from 2011-2016 will compete with one other to find the Champ of Champs under the ECOFIT theme.
Mr. Richard Jones, Vice President of Indorama Ventures Public Company Limited, the world’s leading petrochemical producers and a leading global manufacturer of wool yarns, talked abouttheRECO Young Designer Competition 2017, mentioning that this year’s competition is the sixth edition. The competition originated from Indorama’s vision as a world-class chemicals company making great products for society. With regards to the company’s long embrace of sustainability, IVL undertook important measures including building recycling facilities throughout the region to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, reuse our waste, and recycle used PET bottles for the production of polyester fibers and filaments. The recycled products from this site serve the end markets of packaging, fabrics, filling, and non-woven textiles and industrial products.
By increasing public awareness of recycling and reuse, the designers have to use these recycled materials in their creative work. Creative ideas can add value to the products, while recycling the materials can reduce the amount of waste, and solve environmental issues.

In 2015, the amount of plastic waste in Thailand was 2.7 million tons, or 7,000 tons a day. About 50% of such waste is disposed of incorrectly (source: Pollution Control Department, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, 2015). This leads to other issues such as contamination in the soil, water and air, and the greenhouse effect. Everyone has to take part in solving these problems by using materials carefully, separating waste to enable recycling, and supporting the use of recycled materials to make usable products.

“Recycling is a part of our mission to be socially and environmentally responsible. In 2016, the company recycled 337,000 tons of PET bottles, generating USD 6.845 billion. Used PET bottles are turned into plastic beads and polyester, which are later supplied to packaging and apparel factories,” said Mr Jones.

The RECO Young Designer Competition 2017 is building on the company’s social and environmental mission through a new generation. The top three winners of the RECO Young Designer Competitions from 2011-2016 will be brought together to produce creative and innovative works using recycled materials, to find the Champ of Champs. There are two categories in the competition: Fashion Design and Product Design. The designers will use Ecorama polyester to design products under the ECOFIT Theme. The competition’s core objective is that the designers use PET and polyester as their main materials to create products using their creativity and imagination.

This year’s competition is honored by well-known design experts who will be the judges and speakers, including Mr. Apiwat Yotprapan, Mr. Adisak Rojsiripan, Ms. Jarupatch Archawasamitr,
Associate Professor Dr. Singh Intrachooto, Mr. Chaiyong Rattana-angkura, and Associate Professor Dr. Supavee Sirinkraporn, along with judges from Elle Thailand. The participating designers will also join a special product design and development workshop with design gurus, and observe recycling innovations at IVL recycling facilities in Thailand. The three finalists will also have a chance to showcase their designs at ELLE Fashion Week 2017.

“Many talented designers have been accepted to join this competition. We hope to see creativity, uniqueness and practicality in their designs so that we can inspire the public and raise awareness of recycling and reuse, in order to save our environment while adding an edge to the design and fashion industries,” said Mr. Jones.

Eddie Evans – Founder of the Bangkok International Rugby Tens
Born and raised in Canada, Eddie Evans discovered rugby at a very early age. He trained all through school and it soon became evident that he would pursue rugby as a career.
From 1986 to 1999 he played for the Canadian national team, won 50 Caps and represented his country in three World Cups.
He moved on to play for the UK, New Zealand and Japan for several seasons. When he retired from playing professional rugby in 2001, he decided to move to Thailand to found his company X-Treme Sportsgear Co., Ltd. (www.x-tremesportsgear.com).
Once his company was established and running well, Eddie wanted to give back to the community he was now living in. This is why, he started planning the first edition of the Bangkok International Rugby Tens (www.bangkokrugby10s.net) in 2004. Today this tournament is one of the biggest rugby events in Asia and is known around the world.
Every year, the proceeds from the Bangkok International Rugby Tens go the Nak Suu Tigers, a rugby program for slum kids, co-founded by Eddie. Nak Suu is Thai for “noble warrior” and gives children from Bangkok’s slums the opportunity to learn valuable life skills while playing rugby. The organization’s motto is “Changing lives forever” and by providing children with mentoring and vocational training on top of rugby practice, they give these kids a chance to escape the cycle of extreme poverty they live in and start a new life.
Darryn Mathee – Senior Event Organizer at the Bangkok International Rugby Tens
Born and raised in South Africa, Darryn Mathee has been passionate about rugby from the age of five. He played throughout his school career and later became a professional high school rugby coach.
In 2012 he decided to leave South Africa and move to Phuket, Thailand. for CSR Outing Tourism Targeting Corporate Customers
Monday, December 19, 2016 at Grand Ballroom, Queen Sirikit National Convention Center
Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), collaborated with 9 partners to organize the Village To The World Project to launch 10 innovative model communities with CSR Outing Tourism and invited organizations and private companies with CSR budgets to bring employees to experience the ways of life of people in rural communities and to engage in CSR activities. Companies listed in the Stock Exchange and companies located in industrial estates are invited to join the event to learn and to buy the CSR outing packages of these communities. TAT expects that the CSR Outing tourism program will generate annual income of 1 million baht for each community in 2017.
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said that “the Village To The World Project is established according to the strategy to empower the local people and strengthen their communities. The goal is to create innovative tourism programs to suit the potential and identity of each community and to increase marketing opportunities for these communities to generate revenues from tourism on a sustainable basis. This year, the project has launched its first program under the title "MEET IN THE VILLAGE #Best CSR Outing Ever," which is a CSR outing tourism package for corporate customers to explore and to develop the traditional identity and uniqueness of the communities further into a new CSR outing tourism program for corporate customers. In addition, the corporates are ensured that they will have unique experiences and enjoy the unique identities and diversity of the communities. Most importantly, everyone will feel the joy of giving and engage in CSR activities that benefit the communities."
In 2016, the project selected 10 communities with an annual income of less than 1 million baht and are small communities not well known to tourists, and further do not have tourist attractions but have potential in arts and cultures and ways of life which can be developed into activity-based tourism.
Since the beginning of this year, the project has surveyed and worked with 10 communities to develop community tourism models for CSR outings suitable for corporate customers. There are 10 model communities in total, including 3 communities from the northern region, 2 communities from the northeastern region, 3 communities from the central region and 2 communities from the southern region as follows:
    • Baan Rai Kong Khing Community, Chiang Mai Province
    • Mueang Kao Community, Sukhothai Province
    • Baan Phra Bat Huai Tom Community, Lamphun Province
    • Ku Ka Sing Community, Roi Et Province
    • Khok Kong Community, Kalasin Province
    • Baan Dong Yen Community, Suphan Buri Province
    • Baan Tam Suea Homestay, Phetchaburi Province
    • Baan Rimklong Homestay Community, Samut Songkhram Province
    • Lee Led Community, Surat Thani Province
    • Rawai Community Enterprise, Phuket Province
Today, the Village to The World Project will launch 10 innovative model communities with CSR outing tourism and has invited organizations in both the government and private sectors and listed companies to attend the event, such as PTT Public Company Limited, Thai Beverage Public Company Limited, Muang Thai Life Assurance Public Company Limited, Tipco Foods Public Company Limited, CAT Telecom Public Company Limited and Safari World Public Company Limited etc.

In addition, the project also received support from the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand who brought companies from its industrial estates to visit and purchase CSR outings to the communities.

Mr. Noppadon Pakprot , Deputy Governor for Tourism Products and Business said that “the project has cooperated with Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) and the Association of Thai Tour Operators (ATTO) to invite tour and seminar operators for Thailand's leading organizations to conduct panel discussion to expand market for CSR Outing tourism program to corporate customers at home and abroad. The project expects that this CSR Outing tourism model will be able to generate annual income of 1 million baht for each community in 2017. The ultimate goal of Village to The World Project is to create value and add value to new tourism model for communities and increase opportunity for them to generate income because tourism is a tool to strengthen the communities and allow them rely on themselves and be self-sustainable.”

CEO Village Ambassadors – famous CEOs invite you to join Outings in communities.
Dr. Verapong Chaiperm, Governor, Industrial Estate of Thailand | Baan Phra Bat Huai TomLamphun, said, “Lamphun, although only a small province, is home to ancient Lanna history. As part of a Buddhist kingdom that prospered for over six hundred years, Lamphun is culturally diverse and is home to attractive lifestyles for many people.  This is especially true at Baan Phra Bat Huai Tom. It is a community of Pga K’nyau (Karen people) who are deeply faithful to Buddhism. The community adheres to the Five Precepts and is vegetarian. I think corporations with executives and employeeswho enjoymaking visits to temples, making merit and bringing good fortunes to their lives, would certainly like this place.
Mr. Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth, Chief Executive Officer, Bangkok Airways PCL. | Mueang Kao Sukhothai, said, “The year is coming to an end. If a corporation is planning an outing, I propose Mueang Kao Sukhothai . Sukhothai has an ancient history and culture. There are many stories, places and great Sukhothai food. The flight from Bangkok to Sukhothai is only an hour. It’s exhausting to sit in cars; so just fly there instead. We can do many things to help the community survive sustainably.  And Sukhothai has a lot to offer. Aside from the historical sites where Sukhothai triumphs in terms of ancient sites, the people still offer cultural activities that are the signatures of Sukhothai. You can compete and test out your skills and take photographs of the many great scenes. Oh, and don’t forget to ride the Rot Khok Mu in Sukhothai.”
Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld, Chief Executive Officer, Thai Air Asia | Ban Rai Kong Khing, Chiangmai, said, “Ban Rai Kong Khing is a small, charming Lanna (northern Thai) community. Our Air Asia employees are always coming up with ideas and taking part in activities in the community, especially on promoting English skills so the community can communicate more readily and confidently, as Chiangmai is a major tourist destination for foreigners. Recently, community members, children, and adults have been showing the village to great interest and attention. If any public or private agency would like to organize an outing and community CSR, we believe Ban Rai Kong Khing is the place to do it. It is certainly a fascinating option.”
Mr. Navamin Prasopnet, Managing Director, Mono Broadcast Co., Ltd. | Lee Led Community, Surat Thani, said, “In fact, Mono has been on outings and done mangrove-planting CSR activities

here on many occasions. But I have to admit, I am still in awe whenever I see the mangroves of Lee Led, Surat Thani.  It is worthy of its nickname as “the Amazon of Thailand”. As for the community lifestyle, it has been converted into many fun team building competitions, such as the boating rally to find trees in the mangroves and the competition to increase the value of community shrimp pastes, the clam-digging competition, and the conservation slogan competition for the community. And what really impressed me was the firefly-watching boat trip at night. They gather around the Lamphu trees. It was a very beautiful and fun outing.”
Mr. Apirom Sukprasert, Senior Executive Vice-President, Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) | Koh Lone Rawai, Phuket, said, “More adventurous corporations that love the blue seas and CSR activities will certainly like the outing program at Koh Lone. There, you can experience the fishermen’s lifestyle, eat freshly caught seafood and help the community construct much needed dams. You can enjoy your trip, learn how to make batik fabric and accomplish some useful tasks. Koh Lone is only about five kilometers from Phuket. There is no electricity there, so most people on the island use solar cell energy. At night looking back from Koh Lone at mainland Phuket, you see the lights brightly shining at night most energetically. Do you believe that you could find happiness amidst the quiet and peace at Koh Lone? I assure you that once you are there you won’t want to go back to Bangkok.  And return trips are a must.”

Dr. Somporn Suebthawilkul, Managing Director, Dhipaya Insurance Public Company Limited. | Ban Rim Khlong Home Stay, Samut Songkhram, said, “At Ban Rim Khlong Home Stay, you will experience nature, traditional culture, and a beautiful community lifestyle. Rich with enchantment and emotional satisfaction in a rare lifestyle nowadays, I invite all companies who would like to organize outings or CSR trips to Ban Rim Khlong Home Stay, Samut Songkhram. The community needs great ideas from a new perspective that would improve community sustainability. I think this community is another favorite place for company outings and CSR trips. It’s sure to impress the employees in your organization.”
Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of Tourism Authority of Thailand, invited all the organizations to be a part of the strategy to empower the people and strengthen the communities by participating in a CSR outing tourism program. By conducting activities in the communities, you are already helping in many ways. The communities would utilize your income to develop in numerous aspects and strengthen themselves in sustainable ways.
I would like to thank our partners for their cooperation in the operation to upgrade and add value to community tourism, including Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization), Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, Dhipaya Insurance PCL, Bangkok Airways, Thai Air Asia, Mono Broadcast Co., Ltd. and N.C.C. Management & Development Co., Ltd. On behalf of Village to The World Project, I would like to offer all of you my genuine appreciation and hope that you will continue to support us moving forward.”

DIMENSION DATA PUBLISHES IT PREDICTIONS FOR 2017

The focus on digital is set to remain the key trend in the IT industry for the next 12 months
Bangkok, 16 December 2016– Dimension Data, the global ICT solutions and services provider, today published its top IT predictions for 2017, and the focus on digital is set to remain the key trend in the industry for the next 12 months.
Dimension Data’s Chief Technology Officer, Ettienne Reinecke says digital is about building truly customer-centric business models on IT including the network, data centre, applications, and other infrastructure - which may be on-premise, or cloud-based.  “Today, there’s no such thing as a digital strategy – just strategy in a digital world. And while the digital age is creating a degree of uncertainty for some organisations, it’s also opening the doors to exciting possibilities and ushering in an era of infinite potential.”

Reinecke cites ownership and access to data – and metadata – as a key theme. “In the year ahead, control and ownership of data and metadata will emerge as a point of discussion - and indeed contention.

That’s because data and metadata are the ‘gold dust’ that allow organisations to glean rich insights about customer behaviour. In addition, metadata allows organisations to identify specific behavioural patterns, derive business intelligence, and make informed business decisions,” Reinecke explains.

As a result, organisations are becoming increasingly protective of their metadata, and wary of who has access to it. “Organisations don’t just want ownership and control of their data for compliance reasons: they want it to perform analytics. We expect that this will trigger some interesting discussions between businesses and their cloud providers. For example, where are the boundaries with respect to ownership, especially around metadata. We foresee this issue resulting in a bit of ‘push and pull’ among the various parties.”

Other IT trends that Dimension Data predicts will make their mark in 2017 include:

Cybercrime is big business. Over the last few years, cybercriminals have been re-investing much of the ill-gotten gains into developing more sophisticated capabilities, using more advanced technologies. Despite ongoing innovation in the cybersecurity industry, much of the effort remains reactive. Cybersecurity will become more predictive, rather than proactive.

A new generation is starting to show up at work, and they’re not millennials, or even Gen Z: they’re machines.  And it won’t be much longer before holographics, augmented reality, and virtual reality begin to move from B2C into B2B. Also, over the next two to three years these technologies will drive a fundamental transformation of the workspace.

IoT will deliver on the promise of big data. Increasingly, big data projects are going through multiple updates in a single year – and the Internet of Things (IoT) is largely the reason. That’s because IoT makes it possible to examine specific patterns that deliver specific business outcomes, and this has to increasingly be done in realtime. This will drive a healthier investment, and faster return in big data projects.

In 2017 we’ll see more widespread adoption of containers, but the transition to a fully containerised world will take few more years. In addition, we’ll see increasing adoption of network function virtualisation (NFV) when cloud-enabling existing networks, and for new networks to be architected with hybrid cloud in mind.
