February 7, 2017 - Today, dtac was invited to participate in TOT’s press conference formally announcing the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the 2300MHz spectrum.  TOT’s ambition is to maximize as much of their 60 MHz of bandwidth as possible and dtac feels that we would be TOT’s ideal partner to reach this goal.  The 2300 MHz spectrum would allow dtac to provide smoother and faster digital services for our customers immediately and it will help us to reach our 2020 goals of becoming Thailand’s digital service provider.

The 59th Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair in New Form Targets 17 Billion Baht Sales Showcasing 6 Thematic Zones for Niche Markets

Ministry of Commerce, through the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), is driving Thailand towards becoming the world hub of gems and jewelry industry. In line with the government’s strategic roadmap, Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair (BGJF) will serve to immensely boost the national export values in this sector.  As the country’s longest-established gems and jewelry fair, the 59th BGJF is set to welcome over 23,000 visitors and potential buyers from every continent and garner the handsome sales turnover of 17 billion baht.
            Mrs. Apiradi Tantraporn, Minister of Commerce, disclosed during the press conference held today (Wednesday, February 8, 2017) at InterContinental Hotel Bangkok: “The gems and jewelry industry is celebrated as one of the country’s major industries. Presently, Thailand is ranked among the world’s 10 largest gems and jewelry exporters. In 2016, gems and jewelry enjoyed more than 6.97 billion US dollars in export value. As for this year, the industry is expected to gain some 7.32 billion US dollars, a 5% increase from the previous year.
“Through the Ministry of Commerce, the government has issued a set of policy and roadmap to propel this industry towards sustainable growth. Exhibitors can count on Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair as an effective marketing tool in order to expand their exports or build network of businesses with importers from around the world. But more importantly, it is the centre stage for potential Thai SMEs as well as competitive designers to showcase their creativity and innovative designs to international audiences.

Mrs. Apiradi further reiterated: “The recent cabinet resolution on January 17, 2017, on gems and jewelry product import has effected duty exemption on 32 additional items of gems and jewelry in category 71, with result of zero tax, taking effect as of January 28, 2017 onwards. In addition, the cabinet agreed on the tax incentives and competitive enhancement measures where business owners can deduct from payable tax two times the cost of salary and wage. Also, they are to be given access to low-interest loans for upgrades of product standard, machinery replacement, and public relations activities for tourist attractions in the country’s gems & jewelry trade areas.”

The DITP Director General Mrs. Malee Choklumlerd meanwhile disclosed: “It is pleasing to see that with complete transformation and the newly-defined zones, the upcoming fair has already attracted 18% increase in the number of overseas exhibitors compared to the previous event. And since we all have recognized the essential role of communication in the fair’s success, DITP has launched public relations blitz worldwide through its Thai Trade Center offices in 58 major cities in 43 countries to invite major buyers to join the fair.”

The press conference was also joined by top executives of the Ministry of Commerce namely Mr. Vichak Visetnoi and Mrs. Ratchada Jiasakul, Advisors to the Minister of Commerce; Inspectors General Mrs. Chantira Jimreivat Vivatrat and Mr. Vuttikrai Leewiraphan; and Mrs. Vilaivan Tapwongsri, Commercial Advisor as well as executives from related associations.

The 59th Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair will bring together 730 companies from Thailand and overseas to showcases the vast array of gems and jewelry as well as related products in 2,011 booths. The fair is ready to welcome 23,000 visitors and aiming to fetch some 17 billion baht in revenues. As of now, a long list of buyers from around the world have confirmed their participation including those from the United States, China, Hong Kong, Germany, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, India, Japan, and Saudi Arabia.

Mitr Phol Group and The Thailand Research Fund (TRF) under Research and Researchers for Industry (RRi) Program signed a memorandum of understanding for supporting postgraduate research project in biotechnology, aiming to encourage the creation of innovations that elevate Thai sugar and sugarcane production industry as a movement toward a competitive bio economy, driving new S-Curve, new cycle of leaping growth that aligns with the government’s innovation and technology-driven Thailand 4.0 policy.  
Prof. Suthipun Jitpimolmard, Director, The Thailand Research Fund (TRF) (right) said that “The collaboration with Mitr Phol Group is a great opportunity to elevate Thai industrial sector through research, in response to the country’s development towards knowledge-based economy. The development of agricultural sector requires modern innovation that combines traditional farming knowledge with intelligent machinery to maximize crop yield per unit area, as well as the movement towards bio economy and value creation for agricultural products, which can strengthen and level up the competitiveness of Thai industrial sector in international markets. The development comprises building competent workforce and creating new researches. Both Mitr Phol Group and TRF share the same vision to jointly support post-graduate research workforce in developing new researches for Mitr Phol Group. The project supports research topics with practical purposes, well-proven to optimize TRF’s research management expertise in Research and Researchers for Industries Program and limited resources of all parties.  TRF and Mitr Phol Group will each provide half the funding for each scholarship, unlimited in number, for a period of five years starting October 1, 2016 until September 30, 2021 (fiscal year 2017 - 2021).”

In the first batch, there are 10 researchers from Mitr Phol, 8 master’s degree students and 2 doctoral degree students, entitled for the scholarship. Moreover, Mitr Phol Group joined hands with Department of Biotechnology, Faculty of Agro- Industry; Kasetsart University to launch the first-of-its-kind Non-Coursework curriculum, which allows researchers to work and learn concurrently in the company, with university classes conducted to the workplace.

  • Processing technology for value creation of sugar and sugarcane products
  • Value creation of waste from bio-refinery processes
  • Improvement of raw material shipping and storing systems

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has selected nine foreign couples from nine different countries for exclusive wedding ceremonies that will take place in Thailand’s most romantic cities under the “Thailand Wedding Destiny” campaign. A total of nine professional wedding organisers have joined in to make sure the wedding experiences for each selected couple will be more than impressive. Held from 8-12 February,2017 the Thailand Wedding Destiny’s special wedding ceremonies are designed to encourage foreigners to get married in the Thai kingdom.
Mr. Tanes Petsuwan, TAT Deputy Governor for International Market (Europe, Africa, Middle East and Americas), says TAT has recognised that the wedding industry has high economic value as each foreign couple spends between 5 million and 20 million Baht on their wedding. The amount of spending varies in accordance with the number of their guests. At present, Thailand has already been a popular wedding/honeymoon destination among foreigners. According to the Destination Wedding Planners Congress 2016, Thailand is No. 1 in the Asian market. In Australia and New Zealand, Thailand is No. 3. In Europe, Thailand secures the 6th spot. Sophos Positioned as a Leader in Gartner 2017 Magic Quadrant Report For Endpoint Protection Platforms

OXFORD, U.K.– Feb. 2, 2017 - Sophos (LSE: SOPH), a global leader in network and endpoint security, today announced that Gartner, Inc., has once again positioned Sophos as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Protection Platforms1 (EPP). With the recently launched next-generation anti-exploit product Sophos Intercept X and the continued enhancement of the cloud-based management platform Sophos Central,  Sophos offers a broad portfolio of endpoint security products that are proven to be effective against today’s sophisticated threats. According to the report, the next wave of cyber-threats will be fileless. “Advanced attackers have been exploiting script-based attacks for years. dtac makes cash donation to “MCOT Southern Thailand Flood Relief” campaign

The campaign invites dtac customers to make a donation to flood victims in Southern Thailand by dialing *420*100# from January 10-31, 2017. The donation, without deducting any expense,will be used  to provide flood-relief bags and cooked food for flood victims later on.
