New Location and Dates Announced for CommuniCast Myanmar 2016

Third annual event will now take place at Myanmar’s Novotel Yangon Max in December following changes in venue availability
22 September 2016 – The organiser of CommuniCast Myanmar 2016 today announced the show will move to a new location and take place later than planned this year due to changes in the availability of the main exhibition venue.

CommuniCast Myanmar 2016 will now take place from Tuesday, December 6 to Thursday, December 8, while the associated Myanmar Satellite Forum, will be held on Wednesday, December 7.
The new venue for the combined event is the Novotel Yangon Max, in the centre of Myanmar, which will provide the opportunity to stage a professional trade show of 90 companies and the Myanmar Satellite Forum in one location.

Rupert Owen, Director for ICT shows at Allworld Exhibitions, said: ‘’Since the launch of the CommuniCast Myanmar event in Yangon in 2014 we have looked for consistency both in the dates and the venue. Unfortunately, the Myanmar Event Park’s current licensing arrangements are too uncertain to facilitate the running of an international event for the ICT and satellite industries on the planned dates. The late change is regrettable but the circumstances are beyond our control and those of our partners in Myanmar.”
Last year’s CommuniCast was attended by more than 2,500 delegates and visitors. This year, more than 80 exhibitors have already signed up to take part in CommuniCast 2016, with topics including ICT solutions, mobile and broadband set to be discussed, as well as satellite and broadcasting at the co‐ located Myanmar Satellite Forum.
Since the event was launched in 2014, mobile penetration levels in the country have grown from close to 10% to 55% by the middle of 2016. This continues to grow rapidly, with 4G services available in Yangon. In the current market, opportunities are driven by the growing mobile enterprise, satellite & broadband services and broadcasting technologies.

Mr Owen added: “With the rapid growth of the ICT industry in Myanmar we are very keen to provide a professional platform for companies both to be able to present new solutions and to launch new services.”

Stuttgart. A positive result in terms of operating result and yield: After the first nine months of 2016, Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG has increased its operating result by 12% to 2.9 billion euro. The operating profit margin has reached 17.4%. For the previous year this figure was 15.5%. The number of deliveries has risen by 3% in comparison with the same time period last year, reaching a total of 178,314 vehicles. A turnover of 16.5 billion euro has corroborated the high figures from last year. Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board and Member of the Executive Board, Finance and IT, Lutz Meschke, believes that Porsche is on the right track: “With our profit margins, we continue to be one of the world's most profitable automotive manufacturers. As a result of this, we are able to cover the costs of investments for the future in the fields of electro-mobility, digitalisation and connectivity”.
Our attractive product range is the key to our economic success, states Chairman of the Executive Board, Oliver Blume. “Good financial results build the foundation for innovative sports cars of the future. Delighted customers, good profit margins and secure jobs are all parameters that we use to measure our success”.
Chief Financial Officer, Lutz Meschke, credited the excellent growth in operating result to the increased sale figures as well as to stringent fixed cost management and positive        effects resulting from currency hedging. For the full financial year 2016, Meschke expects a slight in-crease in operating result in comparison with the previous year. In addition, the sports car manufacturer will once again exceed its strategic objective to achieve a profit margin of 15%.
As a result of this success, Porsche has been able to create new job opportunities. After nine months of 2016, the Porsche team has increased to 27,115 employees - 13% more than 12 months ago. This continued growth now means that the number of employees has more than doubled over the past six years.

Eight startups from five Asian countries competed in the inaugural event to gain new market expansion tools from global specialists
3 NOVEMBER 2016 – Yesterday at the first regional Digital Winners Asia startup event by Telenor Group, it was Thailand’s TakeMeTour that took top honors after competing with seven other leading startups from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand and Malaysia. Following the winning pitch, the team will return to their home market with 100,000 Norwegian Kroner in initial expansion funds, and a wealth of support, network and knowledge to expand their business into neighboring markets – the event’s overall theme.
Hosted in emerging tech hot-spot Yangon, Myanmar, Digital Winners Asia is the first Asia-wide startup event that pairs some of the top startup talent from Telenor Group’s leading accelerator programs across Asia and leaders in market expansion and entrepreneurship within a two-day learning and competition platform. The format also featured keynote discussions from across the startup and venture capital communities such as Google, Golden Gate Ventures and Telenor Group’s own innovation and investment arms of the company.
“Bringing together some of the brightest startups from across Asia in our first Digital Winners Asia event was not only inspiring, but an exciting indication of the extraordinary talent and growth in this region. All teams were strong and dynamic contenders,” says Johanna Staaf, Director of New Ventures, Telenor Group. “On a broader
scale, having the ability to host such diverse groups under numerous innovative categories, in a market with a burgeoning tech future like Myanmar, is a true honor.”
The winning startup duo  from TakeMeTour, Jinda-Apiraksa Amornched, CEO and co-founder, and Noppon Anukunwithaya, COO and co-founder, created the Bangkok-based company focused on providing consumer access to the largest collection of one-day tours in Thailand. They will use this experience to focus on growth in their own country, and they plan to expand into Myanmar starting with the expansion funds from Telenor Group.
“An event like Digital Winners Asia is a dream-come-true for startups like us. We started with the dtac Accelerate program and have advanced to this point to be able look at expansion into other markets. Then to have the caliber of speakers and their personal advice at the event, is priceless,” says Jinda-Apiraksa Amornched, CEO and co-founder of TakeMeTour.
The Competing Startups
The eight teams that attended Digital Winners Asia consisted of current and past participants of Telenor’s five startup incubation and acceleration programs across Asia. Each company was selected based on its life-cycle and potential to break into to new markets, as well as grow alongside Telenor. The startups at this inaugural event represent a diversity of industries: marketing services, energy, artificial intelligence, tourism and education:

IFS IoT Business Connector™ turns IoT insights into actions in IFS Applications™, IFS Field Service Management™ (FSM), and IFS Enterprise Operational Intelligence
IFS, the global enterprise applications company, presents IFS IoT Business Connector, a new product that shortens the time from ideas to tangible benefits for customers’ IoT initiatives by providing an end-to-end architecture and the ability to turn IoT discoveries into actions. The product was presented at the IFS World Conference 2016 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
IFS IoT Business Connector has been designed to de-risk and accelerate IoT initiatives in areas such as predictive maintenance, service management, asset management, and manufacturing. It provides the ability to harness data gathered from products, assets and equipment to identify actionable observations that trigger user-defined, automated or semi-automated workflows in the IFS enterprise software. IFS IoT Business Connector provides plug-and-play connectivity with the Microsoft Azure IoT Suite for device communications and data analytics, alongside open APIs to connect other IoT platforms or specialized IoT discovery applications.
IFS IoT Business Connector bridges the gap between analysis of IoT data and using the output from such analyses to execute maintenance, service, and manufacturing more efficiently. It adds the ability to turn an investment in IoT connectivity and data analytics into savings through process efficiencies, and into new revenues through service innovation.
The key components of IFS IoT Business Connector are:
  • IoT Controller, determining what actions to take when IoT data analysis reveals observations relevant to the business. It also handles a range of practical issues that occur when mapping operational technology (OT) into IT and business applications.
  • IoT Gateway, enabling secure communications between the cloud-based discovery and analytics of IoT data, to the on-premise or cloud-based IFS products.
  • IoT Discovery Manager, providing additional management and monitoring capabilities when using the Microsoft Azure IoT Suite as the discovery platform.
The IFS IoT Business Connector is currently being implemented at early adopter customers Songa Offshore, an international midwater drilling contractor, ATS, a leading provider of factory maintenance and IT services based in the U.S., Anticimex, an international pest control company, and Hecla Mining, the North American precious metals mining company.
“We decided to join the early adopter program because we understood the enormous impact that IoT technology can have on our business,” ATS Automation Director of IT Christopher Lebeau said. “By connecting our field service value chain we are able to automate our processes in a new way and use the insights to make smarter business decisions.”
Anticimex CEO Jarl Dahlfors said, “The IFS IoT Business Connector allows us to take control of the data generated by our range of digital pest control devices, improving both the service to our customers as well as providing them with the information they need.”
IFS CTO Dan Matthews added, “By working with our customers and partners we are able to connect the dots so that investments in IoT not only yield piles of data and pretty charts, but result in real actions that are co-planned and executed in an optimal way together with everything else that is going on in a business.  For our customers it means an easier way to get started with IoT, lower risks, and faster time to realized value.”
The IFS IoT Business Connector will be released to market in early 2017. Find out more: www.ifsworld.com/iot.

“BRIGHTON COLLEGE BANGKOK” RAISES THE BAR IN SOUTH EAST ASIA’S PREMIUM EDUCATION MARKET

Bangkok, 7 November 2016Ms. Nusara (Assakul) Banyatpiyaphod, Chairman of Hands Management Company Limited, proudly announced the official opening of “Brighton College International School Bangkok”, sister school of the UK’s top independent school, which recently welcomed its founding Pre-Prep pupils. Brighton College Bangkok offers an inspirational education defined by idividualisation, excellent teaching and an innovative curriculum incorporating problem solving and enquiry-based learning.
The initial target for enrolment was a 50-50 ratio between local and foreign pupils and this goal has been accomplished by the pre-opening leadership team. In the safe and secure environment of the purpose-built Pre-Prep School, which is part of a 51-rai campus, children are encouraged to pursue opportunities that will support them in discovering and pursuing their own distinctive set of talents, as well as learning skills that will prepare them in becoming resilient, respectful and versatile global citizens of the future.
Ms. Nusara (Assakul) Banyatpiyaphod, Chairman of Hands Management Company Limited said, “The Pre-Prep School for children between the ages of 2 and 9 years old, is the first part of Brighton College Bangkok to open, while the Prep and Senior School will commence in September 2017. Initially, we have met our preliminary target for enrolment taking into account our selectivity and goal for nationality mix. Our founding pupils who joined us on 8 September 2016, along with our outstanding teachers, have helped us build a vibrant, unique community in a short period of time. Our small class sizes allow us to know our pupils extremely well, allowing for a forensic focus and individualised learning. Our teachers challenge and support all our pupils, wherever their strengths may lie”.
The Pre-Prep School’s buildings are equipped with resources and materials for children to gain the most from experiential learning opportunities. This includes outside learning areas, covered and open-air and sensory play zones, a wading pool, in which the youngest pupils can build their water confidence, a light and airy Art Studio and a unique Learning Resource Centre, which has been designed to facilitate hands-on learning and includes our fantastic Library.
“Brighton College provides its pupils with a healthy and happy balanced school life, a key ethos to a Brighton education. Our team of inspirational teachers, 75% of which have taught in leading UK independent schools, provide children with an unparalleled level of attention to detail. This means each child’s achievements are noticed and celebrated and he or she can become the very best version of themselves possible. For us, excellence does not only refer to academic performance but also in becoming well-rounded individuals and pursuing talent in sport, drama, music, languages, or any field where a pupil’s interest lies. All of our pupils learn English, Thai and Mandarin Chinese to ensure they are prepared for the culture in which they live and the world they will inherit. At Brighton College Bangkok traditional barriers between subjects are broken down to create a sense of relevance, which enables our pupils’ inter-disciplinary awareness and for them to make important connections in their learning”, added Mr. David Tongue, Headmaster of Brighton College Bangkok.
The complete College, which includes the Prep and Senior Schools, will open in September 2017. In the Prep School, the curriculum for pupils aged between 9 and 13 focuses on supporting children to gain confidence, whilst motivating them to question the world around them, in order to instill a sense of creativity and innovation. On entry to Senior School, the curriculum becomes increasingly focused, fully preparing pupils for the academic challenges of IGCSE and providing them with the depth of understanding required in order to achieve the highest possible grades. In Years 12 and 13 pupils typically choose to concentrate on four subjects to study at A-level, as they prepare for university entrance.
Prior to making an application, the faculty and staff would advise interested families to book a visit with the Admissions team which would be followed with a scheduled assessment. If a family is based overseas and unable to visit, the Registrar will guide them through the process.
Recently, Brighton College Bangkok has joined the Council of British International Schools (COBIS), the premier association for International British Schools Overseas, and is the only member school in Bangkok.

First bank in Thailand to adopt vocal-recognition technology
BANGKOK – Citi Thailand has today officially launched Voice Biometrics authentication, or vocal-recognition service, allowing customers secure and convenient access to CitiPhone Banking services.
Mr. Darren Buckley, Country Head and Citi Country Officer, said “Citi has a history of exploring client friendly innovation and secure technologies that enhance convenience and flexibility for our customers. Last September Citi successfully launched fingerprint identity verification technology for customers carrying out transactions via our Mobile Banking application, and following approval from the Bank of Thailand, we are now the first bank in Thailand to offer Voice Biometrics authentication as a means of identification for our CitiPhone Banking clients. Now when our customers access basic financial transactions through CitiPhone Banking, they will no longer have to remember complicated passwords or have to answer so many personal questions, thereby enhancing convenience and security at the same time."

Voice Biometrics authentication works by verifying the identity of customers via their voice when they get through to a CitiPhone Banking Officer. On registration for the service, the system records and stores the customer’s voice as a unique ‘voice print’ and maximizes security by encoding it numerically to Binary Code format. This means customers can be confident that nobody can imitate their voice using the service.
Vira-anong Chiranakhorn Phutrakul, Consumer Business Manager, Citi Thailand said, "Citi is the first bank to roll out Voice Biometrics authentication in the financial sector in Thailand, having previously rolled it out successfully in a number of other markets such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia. This service enhances security in the financial sector, enabling voice authentication for most basic customer needs, such as querying due dates and amounts for credit card payments. However, for certain higher risk financial transactions, such as change of a customer’s demographic data, Citi’s customers will still be asked additional security questions. Voice Biometrics technology is highly intelligent; even if the account owner speaks in a different language from that recorded during the registration verification phase, the customer can still be securely authenticated, on average saving 45 seconds on every call. Voice authentication also recognizes when someone is trying to imitate the voice of a customer, and immediately denies access to any information or services."

At the time of registration for Citi’s Voice Biometrics service, customers will be required to call CitiPhone Banking at 1588 and agree to terms and conditions of use. Then, the system will store the customer’s voice in the form of a voiceprint, which is unique to each person. Customers will also be asked personal data questions for further identity verification purposes they may be required in the future. Once registration is complete, a text or email notification will be sent within 2- 4 hours, after which customers can start to use Citi’s Voice Biometrics service via CitiPhone Banking Officer.
“Vocal-recognition technology is another approach to preventing financial crime and the theft of customers’ financial information. However, the Voice Biometrics system remains a voluntary choice for our customers. In case that the customer does not want to use the service, they don’t have to. The bank continues to offer traditional safety measures by authentication through security questions, personal Telephone PIN or One Time Password. Financial security remains at the heart of Citi’s services”, Mrs. Phutrakul concluded.

Country Group Holdings PCL (CGH) today announced a strong2016 third-quarter performance witha net profit of 260.28 million baht, an increase of 210.28% from 50.00 million baht in the same quarter last year.
Chief Executive Officer, Tommy Taechaubol, said CGH’s revenue in the third quarter ending September 30, 2016 increased to 511.16million baht compared to 297.61million baht in the same quarter last year.

“We are happy about the results, which proved that our decision to offer consistent returns to our investors through open-minded investment initiatives, or what we call the ‘New Edge of Investment’,is on the right track,” said Mr Taechaubol.

By “New Edge of Investment”, CGH means focusing on three pillars – strong and diversified products across diverse industries, proven constant income from its subsidiariesand associates, and world-class support from its team of experts with a professional investment process that yields faster returns and high liquidity and better leverages its capability.

“In addition to consistent returns to investors, we always remain committed toenhancing the trust and confidence of our investors by having a clear business direction, maintaining a strong balance sheet and continuing to build onour core business strengths,” Mr Taechaubol added.

MrTaechaubolsaida major contributing factor to such a strong performance was the partial transfer of its retail business to UOBKH. The restructure has allowedthe company to maintain its focus onits strategy to transformits businessfrom securities to investment holdings, spurred bythe downward trend of the overall brokerage commissions.

Increased profit sharing from subsidiaries and affiliates also bolstered the company’s performance. In the third quarter, CGH recorded0.0597 baht earnings per share, equivalent to a419.13% increase from the same period last year.

All of its subsidiaries and affiliates posted strong financial performancesin Q3/2016 as follows:

  • Country Group Securities PCL (CGS):189.26million baht net profit, an increase of 371.52%, after thepartial sale of its retail business to UOBKH earlier this year resulted in a greater focus on leaning its SG&A expenses and higher margin products.

  • Padaeng Industry PCL (PDI):221.45million baht net profit, an increase of394.75% from a net loss of 75.13 million baht in the same period last year.  The company’s first solar farm in Japan started its commercial operations on October 3, 2016. It has investedabout 1,900million baht in three Japanese solar farm projects with a total capacity of 13 MW. For its recycling business, PDI goes for a break-through innovation. PDI Materials entered into a joint venture agreement with CRT, Carbon Reduction Technology AS, a leading Scandinavian recycling company. The joint venture PDI-CRT aims to create sustainable business from the recovery of zinc from industrial waste streams using innovative ultra-high-temperature (UHT) processes. PDI-CRT has gained exclusive rights in Thailand to employ such technology, provided by ScanArc Plasma Technologies AB of Sweden. This unique process is not yet available in Asia. The technology to be deployed has the highest performance commercially available and as such contributes to the most efficient, environmentally friendly and effective, hazardous waste recycling.

  • MFC Asset Management PCL (MFC):51.23 million baht net profit. New product developmentshave enabled the company toachieve greater product diversity and cost efficiency. The outstanding performance earned MFC the “Best Mutual Fund of the Year 2016”award for its I-DEVELOPproduct at the Money & Banking Awards 2016.

  • Country Group Development PCL (CGD): 174.15 million baht revenue, an increase of 39%. CGD has also made various significant moves including investments in Chao Phraya project (a 36-rai site which include Four Seasons hotel, Capella hotel, and Four Seasons Private Residences) and an education centre in the UK.

“We will continue to pursue our goal of achieving an investment return of more than 15% and to make the SET50 Index by2020,” said MrTaechaubol.

“For the final quarter of this year, we will continue to explore new investment opportunities in both local and international markets in order to create impressive returns for our investors.

In addition to making strategic investments in its subsidiaries, CGH also focuses on acquisitions of companies with high growth potential, especially those in the renewable energy, real estate and hospitalitysectors. It will also seek companies with market-leading business models, strong synergies, or distressed assets.

“We seek to build our success from a core foundation of five key strategic strengths: dynamic portfolio, extensive network, synergistic infrastructure, optimal value and an active investment approach,” added Mr Taechaubol.
